December is approaching and today practically all brands have presented their best high-end mobiles of this year 2018. Companies such as Samsung, LG, Sony or OnePlus have already shown off their premium smartphones. Meanwhile, manufacturers like Huawei or Apple itself with the new Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and iPhone 9 and XI postpone the launch of their high-end to the end of this year. However, as we just mentioned, most high-end phones have already been released. This time we will review the best ones and analyze their different characteristics, as well as their strengths and their price, which may currently vary due to the devaluation of their value.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The recently presented Samsung high-end that we can already find for just over 900 euros on Amazon. The technical characteristics of this terminal are very similar to those of its main rivals. Exynos 9810 processor, 6 and 8 GB of RAM and 128 and 512 GB of internal storage expandable up to 1 TB, in addition to a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with QHD + resolution that is proclaimed today as the best on the market. Its cooling system claims to be one of the most efficient when it comes to making intensive use of the terminal.
Regarding the photographic section of the device, it has the same cameras as the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, with a double 12 megapixel rear camera on both sensors and variable focal aperture f / 1.5 and f / 2.4. Its strong point? Without a doubt the performance and the battery, which in this case amounts to nothing more and nothing less than 4000 mAh. Also its compatibility integrates with Fortnite, which comes standard with the phone. Of course, it has IP68-based resistance. Its starting price starts at 1010 euros.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 +
The Note 9's little brothers also deserve a special mention. If we refer to its technical specifications we find a series of characteristics almost traced to those of the latest Samsung flagship. Same processor, although different RAM and internal memory (4 and 6 GB and 64, 128 and 256 GB).
The screen is also the same, although in this case with a smaller size (5.8 and 6.2 inches). As for the cameras, the Plus model has the same sensors as the Note 9. The base S9, on the other hand, has a single 12-megapixel sensor with variable aperture from f / 1.5 to f / 2.4. The battery is also reduced in both cases (3000 and 3500 mAh). Like the Note 9, it has IP68 resistance. The launch price of both is 849 and 949 euros, although currently we can get both for much less.
OnePlus 6
It is the turn of the most reputable Chinese brand in recent years. OnePlus has decided to present this year a terminal at the level of the rest of the high-end mobiles of 2018. Its characteristics do not distinguish much from these. In summary, it has a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 and 8 GB of RAM and 64, 128 and 256 GB of internal storage (we cannot expand the memory using microSD cards). The screen has 6.28 inches in size, FullHD + resolution and a notch on the top. Nor are the cameras falling short of their rivals, since it has a dual 16 and 20 megapixel camera with f / 1.7 aperture in both cases. The strong point of this terminal? The performance and fluidity of your system, as it is based on the latest version of Oxygen OS based on Android Oreo 8.1 (as of today it already has Android 9 Pie officially).
The battery in this case is somewhat lower than that of the rest of the premium range 2018 mobiles: 3300 mAh. Its Dash Charge fast charging technology stands out, which is proclaimed as the best today, capable of carrying out a full charge in just over an hour. It does not have resistance to water and dust, although it claims to resist immersion and splashes, although it is not certified. The price of its base model is 519 euros.
Huawei P20 and P20 Pro
Undoubtedly the surprise of this year has come from the hand of Huawei with its Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The reason for this is due to its cameras, which are proclaimed as the best of 2018. In summary, we find two 20 and 12 megapixel cameras with monochrome and RGB technology and focal aperture f / 1.6 and f / 1.8 in the case of the P20 and three 40, 20 and 8 megapixel cameras with RGB, monochrome and telephoto technology capable of 5x optical zoom.
The rest of the specifications of both models, like the previous ones, are not short either. Its internal hardware is composed of a Kirin 970 processor and 4 and 6 GB of RAM memory, in addition to 128 GB of internal storage (it does not have an inbox for microSD cards) The screen in both cases has FullHD + resolution and notch in the upper frame, although in the case of the P20 we find a 5.84-inch IPS LCD panel and a 6.1-inch OLED in the case of the Pro.. The autonomy section is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable on the market, as we find two batteries of 3400 and 4000 mAh with fast charging technology, the best currently together with the OnePlus 6. Unfortunately, it does not have any kind of resistance to water, but it does to splashes and dust. Specifically, it has IP67 resistance.
Xiaomi Mi 8
The high-end model from Xiaomi could not be missing from the list of star mobiles of 2018. This terminal has a specification sheet more similar to that of the iPhone X than that of other Android phones. So does its design, which of course has a notch, although in this case we find a hardware facial unlocking technology included in it, the first in an Android phone. The cameras are also similar to those of the iPhone X, with a double 12 megapixel rear sensor and f / 1.8 and f / 2.4 telephoto aperture, just like the latest iPhone models. The screen, on the other hand, grows to 6.21 inches with FullHD + resolution and AMOLED technology.
Regarding the hardware of the equipment, this one is traced to other high-end Android mobiles of 2018. Same processor, same amount of RAM (6 GB) and same amount of internal storage (64, 128 and 256 GB, without the possibility of expansion by cards). The battery capacity amounts to 3400 mAh, and includes fast charging technology. Remarkable is that it is one of the first phones with Android 9 Pie on the market. The price of the Xiaomi Mi 8 starts at 490 euros, proclaiming itself as one of the cheapest high-end phones of 2018. It does not have certified IP protection, although it does have some resistance to splashes and submersions.
Honor 10
The Honor 10 has been the surprise of this year, both for specifications and for price, which starts at 379 euros in official stores. In general, it is a terminal with the same specifications as the Huawei P20, since it has exactly the same technical characteristics (the same processor, amount of RAM and battery as the Huawei P20). The available storage in this case starts from 64 GB and goes up to 128 (it does not support expansion through microSD cards), although it cannot be expanded through SD cards. The quality of the cameras is also comparable to that of the Huawei model. It has two rear sensors with 16 and 24 megapixel RGB and monochrome technology with f / 1.8 focal aperture and Artificial Intelligence. The screen, how could it be otherwise, has 5.84 inches, FullHD + resolution, LCD technology and a notch on the top very similar to that of the P20.
But if there is something to highlight about the terminal beyond its photographic section or its low price, it is its fast charging technology, which tops the list of best fast charges of 2018, as it is capable of completing a charge in just 1 hour and 25 minutes. The battery is also the same as in the P20: 3400 mAh. Unlike its older brothers, it has no resistance to water or splashes; neither to dust particles.
LG G7 ThinQ
You could not miss LG's flagship mobile, the LG G7. Its specifications are in line with the high-end of 2018. Snapdragon 845 processor, 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 and 128 GB of storage with the possibility of expansion through microSD cards up to 2 TB. The screen in this case stays at about 6.1 inches with OLED technology and QHD + resolution, in addition to the upper notch.
Its photographic section also bets on different numbers: double 16 megapixel camera with focal aperture f / 1.6 and f / 1.9 and 71º and 107º of aperture angle, ideal for taking wide-angle photos. It also highlights the auditory section, because it has a four - channel DAC supports DTS: X. The rest of the sections of the LG mobile do not stand out very much: 3000 mAh with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charge. It also has IP68 protection. Its starting price is 849 euros, in line with the rest of the brands, although we can get it at the moment for less.
Sony Xperia XZ3
Not a week has passed since Sony's presentation at the IFA and its Sony Xperia XZ3 is already proclaimed as one of the best high-end of 2018. The hardware, how could it be otherwise, is the same as in that of rest of mobiles. Snapdragon 845, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage expandable by cards up to 512 GB. The panel of its screen has 6 inches in size with QHD + resolution and OLED technology, although in this case we find a design without an eyebrow, unlike the rest of the terminals with the exception of the Samsung Galaxy of this year.
The bet of its rear camera in this case is very different from that of previous mobiles, since it has a single 19 megapixel sensor. What can we highlight about the XZ3? The inclusion of Android 9 Pie as standard and its resistance to water and dust. The battery follows the line of the other terminals: 3300 mAh with fast and wireless charging. The price of the Sony Xperia is currently 799 euros, although it has not yet gone on sale officially in Spain or in other countries.
