As of next Saturday, April 30, voice calls, messages or mobile data that we make from abroad will drop considerably and will become much cheaper. This is the first step before the complete disappearance of roaming in Europe, whose date is scheduled for June 15. Basically, the rates will be the same as those paid in Spain, although a small additional charge will have to be added.
In this way, the prices from this next Saturday, April 30, will be the following:
- Calls made: national rate + 0.05 per minute (maximum 0.19)
- Calls received: 0.0114 per minute
- SMS sent: national rate + 0.02 maximum per message (maximum 0.06)
- Navigation: national rate + 0.05 maximum per MB (maximum 0.20)
The above prices are the maximum that may be set, although the different operators may perform. In fact, Vodafone has already offered free roaming since the end of last year for its RED rate customers and for those who have contracted a Vodafone ONE convergent offer , in their L and M rates . Thus, both current customers and those who contract these rates, they do not have to pay for roaming when they travel within the European Union and the United States, so calls and data cost them the same as if they were made from Spain. In the case of prepaid customers, the Travel Rate is available for 4.8 euros per day.
For its part, the operator Orange has Go Europe (a valid option for prepayment and contract). It costs 1 euro a day and includes 100MB to navigate for a day and make calls of 1 hour in total. To activate this option, send a free text message with the word GO to 22095. The Movistar operator also has its own alternatives. The rate that will apply to its customers by default from this next Saturday is the following:
- Make a call: Six cents a minute.
- Receive a call: Up to 1 cent minute.
- Send an SMS: 2.4 cents (there is no cost to receive SMS)
- Browse the Internet: 6.05 per MB
Another option is to use the Movistar Travel Europe rate . It has a daily fee of 4 euros and offers navigation up to 300MB per day. To call, contract customers have the Europe Daily Rate, with which they can make calls for 120 minutes a day for 4 euros a day.
In any case, the European Commission and Parliament still have to negotiate what the limits will be for that purpose of roaming to avoid abuses or that some customers can take advantage of rates from other countries. At the moment it is unknown what measures will be applied, although it is likely that limits of use will be established, either in number of minutes, messages or downloaded megabytes or days of use per year.
