The Japanese brand Sharp returns to the load in the mobile market, and has presented at IFA three new smartphones with Android: Sharp Aquos B10, Aquos C10 and Aquos D10. Will they be well received by European users?
The three mobiles are characterized by having large screens (even with a notch) and by being in the mid-range, with prices between approximately 300 and 400 euros.
Sharp Aquos D10 features
The main smartphone among Sharp's newest is the Aquos D10, with a large 5.99-inch screen and FullHD + resolution: 2160 x 1080 pixels.
The most striking thing about its design is the notch and its incredible screen / body ratio, which reaches 91%. The brand ensures that the Aquos D10 incorporates the best technology from Sharp televisions to enjoy clear colors on the mobile.
The Sharp Aquos D10 smartphone has a 2.6 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card.
Its weak point is probably the battery, only 2900 mAh. The main camera is 13 megapixels and the selfie camera is 16 megapixels.
This mobile will go on sale in Spain for a price of 400 euros, a somewhat high amount if we consider that it is a mid-range terminal.
Sharp Aquos B10 for 300 euros
This is the most basic mobile of the new Sharp models. The Aquos B10 has a 5.7-inch screen and HD + resolution (720 x 1440 pixels).
Inside, its processor disappoints, since it is an eight-core MediaTek 6750T at only 1.5 GHz. The RAM is 3 GB, and we will enjoy 32 GB of internal storage.
Curiously, Sharp has decided to bet on the cameras of this terminal. The rear is dual, 13 + 8 megapixels, and the front is 13 megapixels.
Unlike the D10, the Sharp Aquos B10 does stand out for its 4000 mAh battery. Placed on a mobile with an HD + resolution screen, it guarantees more than one day of autonomy without problems.
Sharp Aquos C10, better camera and worse battery
The battery of this terminal is 2700 mAh, a lower capacity than the Aquos D10. Otherwise, the processor and performance stakes are quite reasonable: a Snapdragon 630 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, just like in the D10.
The design is based on a 5.5-inch notched screen and FullHD + resolution : 1080 x 2040 pixels.
This terminal has a 12 + 8 megapixel dual main camera and an 8 megapixel front lens.
The Sharp Aquos C10 can be purchased for about 400/450 euros in Europe.
Prices and conclusions
The Sharp Aquos C10 would reach the European market for about 400/450 euros, while the Aquos D10 would be around 400 euros. The cheapest model would be the Sharp Aquos B10, for 300 euros.
Considering the stiff competition from Chinese brands like Huawei and Xiaomi, it's hard to see the special appeal or extra value of Sharp's phones.
The mid-range and high-end smartphones of Chinese manufacturers offer better features for somewhat lower prices (around 350 euros, in some cases).
We will have to wait for the release of the Sharp Aquos to see if they are worth it, for example, in terms of the sharpness of colors and image quality of the screens.
