After landing on Android last summer, Netflix smart downloads do the same for Apple devices. This function allows that when you finish watching the episode of a series, it is automatically deleted and the next one downloaded directly so that you do not have to do it manually. In this way, we can lie comfortably in bed and enjoy a Stranger Things or Better Call Saul marathon without even sitting up.
Although this function is activated by default, you can deactivate it if you want, or see more information. You just have to enter the Downloads section of the Netflix app for iOS and click on "Autodownloads". The operation is very easy:
- Manually download episodes 1 and 2 of a series.
- See the 1.
- The next time you connect to a WiFi network, Netflix will erase it and start downloading episode 3. This way, you can easily watch the second one.
- When you see the 2, it will erase it and start downloading the 4, and so on with all the others.
One of the great advantages of this feature, in addition to comfort, is the fact that we can save a lot of storage without having to be aware of it. With AutoDownloads, no more space will be used than the episodes that have already been downloaded. On the other hand, you will not have to worry about your data, since this function only works to download new chapters if you are connected to a WiFi connection. The moment the device stops detecting it, it will immediately stop the download.
The arrival of AutoDownloads to iOS was something highly anticipated by the Netflix user community. It has been available on Android since July, so it has been quite a few months until it has finally begun to be available for the iPhone and iPad. From now on, therefore, we will not have to worry about being pending to download new chapters of our favorite series to see it going home by bus or metro. We will know that they will be available without lifting a finger to do so.
