It's not one of the quickest brands to get down to business with upgrades. Or at least, when launching them. However, on this occasion, Samsung does have the batteries to publicize the version of Android 9 Pie for all the devices that it has deemed compatible.
For now, the data package has already made its triumphant appearance (not in vain, the version was presented in the middle of last year) in the main flagships: we are talking about four flagship devices, which Samsung has presented in the last two years. Luckily, in addition, some mid-range computers have also received their corresponding portion of Android 9 Pie. We refer, for example, to the Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 and Samsung Galaxy A8 2018.
What Samsung mobiles carry (and will carry) Android 9 Pie?
If you have a Samsung device you should know that only some models will have the opportunity to update to Android 9 Pie. In fact, manufacturers usually continue to provide support (in terms of operating system updates, of course) for a specified period of time. This usually coincides with the two years of rigor.
In any case, you should know that the Samsung phones that are worthy of the update to the most recent version of Android are the following:
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy S8
- Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Note FE (Fan Edition)
- Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A6 + (2018)
Updates to Android 9 Pie already started
The devices that have already been updated to Android 9 Pie are the first four that we mentioned, as they are the most cutting-edge that currently exist in the Samsung catalog: the Samsung Galaxy S9, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
It is important to bear in mind, of course, that some updates may be delayed in time, since from the moment the update begins until it reaches the different countries it will take a while. This is because updates are usually rolled out progressively. In addition, if a device is associated with a specific operator, it is likely that there will also be temporary blocks and that it still takes a little longer to receive the update.
How to check if an update is available
If you want to check the availability of an update, you can do it from the Settings and Software Updates section of your Samsung Galaxy. You can choose if you want to download the update manually or if you want to be notified automatically as soon as Android 9 Pie (or any other data package, of course) is available.
You can also use, if you prefer, the Samsung Smart Switch software , with which you will have to connect the device to the computer. If the version is available, you can install it immediately. Of course, remember that it is very important:
- Have enough battery so that the phone does not turn off during the download and installation process. Make sure it is at least 80% full.
- Make a backup copy of all your most important content and settings, because in the event of any failure, you could lose vital information.
- Finally, you must make sure - although the system will remind you - that you are connected to a WiFi network that can provide stability and security during the download process. Keep in mind that the update to Android 9 Pie is a pretty heavy data package.
