With the arrival of the Mobile World Congress, the presentations of a great variety of devices arrive. During these kinds of events, large companies show us the latest revolutions in technology. For this reason, it is quite common that, during these fairs, we hear many terms whose meaning we do not know. Among these terms, one of the most repeated during the different conferences is the infinite screen. Hearing that a terminal has an infinite screen is becoming more and more common, without a doubt. But what exactly does it mean?

And is that a lot of people still do not understand the concept. Therefore, today we have proposed to shed a little light on this term. In this way, our objective will be to explain what a phone with an infinite screen implies, in addition to the advantages and disadvantages it can have.

What is an infinite screen, definition and origin of the term

The devices with infinite screen have as main features an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a display occupying 80% or more of the front about the device. The main characteristic of these two is the first, since there is no agreement for the second characteristic. Some fonts indicate a higher percentage and other fonts a lower screen percentage. Returning to the Korean brand, it could be said that they have marked the route to follow for the design of the infinite screens. Following the example of the Galaxy S8, S8 + and Note 8, many companies have tried to imitate the style of the Koreans. And this has happened, in large part, due to the advantages that the use of an infinite screen provides.

The advantages and disadvantages of infinite screens

Being a very recent technology, all the pros and cons of using an infinity screen are not known for sure. However, thanks to the increase in terminals with this type of screen, we can differentiate some advantages and disadvantages offered by infinite screens.

Speaking of the advantages, one of the most obvious is the aesthetic improvement. The increase of the screen on the sides gets an extra grip to the rest of the terminal. Thus, the upper and lower margins are further reduced. In addition, the infinity screen brings better quality to panoramic images. On the other hand, and focusing on Samsung's infinity screen design, the side edges of the screen allow you to have continuous control of notifications, even while watching a video.

Now let's move on to the downsides. We could highlight that the change in the aspect ratio can be strange during use in landscape mode. However, it may be due to what we have already discussed about the recent appearance of this new screen design. Apart from this, another problem would be the disappearance of the side buttons or their change in position, including the fingerprint reader.
