- Opinion and conclusions of the 5G
It seemed impossible but it is already a reality. 5G technology is already here thanks to Vodafone, and is currently only available in some of the main cities in Spain, such as Barcelona and Madrid. Two of the essential requirements to enjoy 5G are to have a 5G-compatible carrier rate and a mobile phone with the aforementioned network connection. We have been lucky enough to test the advantages of 5G for the first time and then we will tell you in detail about our experience using the network on a compatible mobile.
Almost 600 MB / s download and only 12 MB / s upload
The great promise of the operators who call themselves precursors of 5G has to do with the download speed of the 5G network. Under our tests in the Speedtest application, the exam has given us a download speed of no less than 563 MB / s. Figures, in general, higher than the majority of WiFi networks that operators currently offer with fiber optics.
Regarding upload speed, the values decline to more measured figures. Specifically, the value that the test has given us was 12.2 MB / s, well below the download speed but above that of most Spanish WiFi networks. The value compared to the 4G + network, of course, is one notch below.
But if there is something that improves compared to the 4G network, it is latency. With a ping of only 11 milliseconds, the 5G network becomes essential if online games are our thing. It is also worth mentioning the zero loss of the connection and the jitter of only 4 milliseconds.
Download PUBG Mobile in less than a minute is now possible
Our use tests have not been limited to the use of metering applications only. PUBG Mobile has been one of the titles that we have downloaded to our 5G phone through the Google application store. The result? In short: surprising.
In just over 50 seconds, we were able to download PUBG in full. The weight of the game on Android is approximately 2.04 GB, which gives us an average download speed of about 40 MB / s download, a figure that may vary depending on our situation and the location of the phone with respect to the enabled antennas by the company.
If we transfer this speed to other uses, actions as simple as downloading a 4 GB movie can take a little over a minute and a half. If we download a 10 GB photo library in applications such as WeTransfer or Google Drive, then we will extend to two and a half minutes.
Opinion and conclusions of the 5G
After a first contact with what is supposed to be the technology of the future, it is time to draw conclusions. First of all, we must highlight the maximum download speed that the network offers us in synthetic tests. Reaching values closer to those of a WiFi network with fiber optics, 5G can replace any wired connection without getting messy.
The great but in this case comes from the hand of the rates and the download speed in a real-use scenario. Currently, the rates offered by Vodafone offer limited data, something that in our point of view makes no sense if we want to get the most out of the advantages of the 5G network.
Regarding the download speed, the room for improvement in a real use scenario is quite large. During the download of games we see that the speed falls to alarming values and very close to those that the most advanced 4G networks currently offer. Also the upload speed is very far from the 1 Gbps (125 MB / s) that the theoretical advantages of the 5G network promised at first. Vodafone promises to reach 2 Gbps (about 250 MB / s) by the end of the year, so we will have to wait until 2020 to see if the company fulfills its promise.
