Not even the most expensive terminals on the market are free from errors and problems. These incidents are usually easily remedied, either by some touch-up that the user can make in the configuration of the same or through an update of the system that comes to put an end to them. In today's special we are going to tell you about some of the most common problems that have been encountered while using the Samsung Galaxy S10 and its two catalog companions, the Samsung Galaxy S10 + and the Samsung Galaxy S10e. These errors and their solution have been compiled by The Android Soul. We started!
Faults and solutions to problems on the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 + and S10e
Live Focus mode keeps crashing
After the May security patch update received, problems arose regarding the live portrait mode: when it is applied to photos, they are blurred. This update has also decreased the general speed of the camera application and some users have reported delays in the shooting of the same as well as annoying noises that did not appear before.
The only solution to this problem would come with a new software update, since it was an installation file that caused it. For now, it only remains to wait for the company to launch it.
HDR mode does not work
Some users of the new Korean flagship are reporting glitches in the camera's HDR mode in various apps: colors appear flat and dull, with a strong washout effect and prominence of yellow in them.
To solve this failure, even temporarily, go through putting the camera in Live Mode, although when HDR mode is chosen the camera will return, by default, to natural mode, so you will have to do it every time. Another way that is longer in time would be to disable the HW overlay in development options. Although this would bring us another problem: we would no longer have HDR content on Amazon Prime Video or Netflix.
Because it is a software problem, we can only wait for Samsung itself to fix it through an upcoming update.
The photos are corrupted
Some users warn that after taking a photo and viewing it on the phone, the image is corrupted and does not come out as it should. The simplest and most direct solution is to restart the mobile. It is something that, in addition, the user must do from time to time, such as when restarting a PC that the system seems to be in order again. Also make sure the images are being saved on the phone and not on the microSD card.
Clear the cache of the camera and gallery apps. Restart the mobile in safe mode to see if the photos look good. To restart in safe mode you must press and hold the power button until the option to restart in safe mode appears on the screen. You can complete the process in less than a minute.
If the problem persists, try clearing the system cache using a ' Wipe Cache Partition '. To do this, when restarting in safe mode, press and hold the volume minus until the corresponding option appears. Press the volume minus button again until that option is highlighted. To select this option press the power button. When the phone returns to safe mode, press the power button again.
Strange sounds using the camera
Users have reported strange noises when using the camera application, both at the time of taking a photo, and even from third-party applications such as Instagram or Snapchat. The sound continues even if the camera mode is changed or toggles between front and rear. This sound is absolutely normal due to the variable aperture of the new Samsung Galaxy S10. You can turn off the camera sounds from the camera settings.
Very low call sound
We do not mean when the ringtone sounds, but when we hear someone through the speaker on a call. However when listening to, for example, WhatsApp audios, the speaker sounds loud and clear as it should. There are users who claim that re-establishing the phone application solves this problem.
Subject line disappears in group messages and multimedia messages
Some users of the Samsung Galaxy S10 report that when they receive a multimedia message (MMS) in the subject, they see the message 'without subject'. Apparently, this error appears in those who use the messaging application that comes by default in the terminal. The solution is to clear the cache or use a third-party messaging application like Android Message. We hope that Samsung updates the terminals to fix this bug in the messages.
The 'What's on my screen' command doesn't work with Google Assistant
This error has been reported by specific users of the Samsung Galaxy S10 +. It is a function similar to Google Lens through which we can ask the Assistant about something that is on the screen of our mobile. The wizard says that it does not find anything on the screen even though it is not the case. This error even persists in users who have updated the terminal to the new May update. As it is not clear if the failure comes from Google or Samsung, the solution remains uncertain. We hope that a new update will fix it.
The 'Silent Mode' does not work
Users of the Samsung Galaxy S10 ensure that the 'Silent mode' of their terminals does not work correctly and the notifications continue to sound as usual.
Apparently, this failure has been caused by the new software update for the month of May. If you haven't updated yet, you can wait for Samsung to release the next one. Some users say that keeping the media volume at 0% fixes the problem temporarily. It can also be solved by formatting the terminal or clearing its cache.
Battery drains quickly
The Samsung Galaxy S10's battery is 3400 mAh, enough for regular use for the vast majority of users. However, some have reported that the battery is not up to scratch and drains faster than it should.
Among the most common solutions to battery drain we have:
- Uninstall third-party applications that come from the factory.
- In the battery statistics we see if any application is consuming too much battery of the account. Uninstall whatever you see is causing the drain.
- Restart the mobile.
- Disable the 'wake up' function in the gestures section, within terminal settings.
- If none of the above works, format the mobile.
Accidental screen touches
Many mobiles nowadays have a function that prevents touching the screen when the mobile is tucked into a pocket or bag. Well, this mode does not seem to work quite well on the Samsung Galaxy S10, as there are users who have seen how phone numbers have been dialed when the mobile is in their pants pocket.
Possible solutions for this failure:
- Disable the ' wake up ' function in the gestures section, within terminal settings.
- Enable the 'Protection against accidental contact' function in 'Settings' and 'Display'.
- Disable the function to increase screen sensitivity in 'Settings' and 'Display'.
If your problem is not fixed you will have to wait for Samsung to launch a new update.
Edge Lightning feature doesn't work in some apps
Thanks to this function, the curved side of these terminals can be better used. And some users comment that this function is only enabled for certain applications and not for all, when it should be so.
A possible solution to this error would be:
- Enter your phone's settings and then click on 'Display'.
- Then, go down and go to 'Edge Screen' and then to 'Edge Lightning'.
- Among your options, click on 'Manage notifications'
- Now, select the applications you want to work with Edge Lightning or simply click on ' All applications '.
Screen brightness issues
There are some users with something to say about the screen brightness of this Samsung Galaxy S10 and it is that apparently, at night, the minimum brightness is still high enough for it to be annoying to the eye. To solve this there are a couple of configurations:
- Use the night mode that you can activate within the settings
- Turn on the blue light filter that you find in the settings and that applies a yellowish filter to the panel to avoid eye strain and avoid that, if you use your mobile at night, it affects your sleep.
Blurry videos on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitch
There are some users who, when pre-buying the Samsung Galaxy S10, received a free subscription to YouTube Premium… but they have been able to make little use of it since, according to these same users, the videos appeared grainy, blurred and, in general, with poor quality image. And not only on Facebook, because videos have also been reported from Facebook, Instagram and Twitch. Even after the May update, there are users who claim that Instagram videos do not open.
It will not do any good to clear the cache or update the affected applications and this has been reported by numerous users. It only remains to wait for Samsung to launch an update that will repair it.
Problems with AOD Interaction with the Clear View Cover
When closing the lid of the Clear View Cover the 'Always on display' function may not work as it should. The 'AOD' displayed when you close the case cover shows the time and date in a different format that cannot be changed in the settings. After a time of 'Always on display' activated, the correct format finally appears but without the notification icons of the function. Other users claim that when the lid is closed on the lock screen with 'Always on display' activated, both the date and time formats are displayed correctly but without notification icons.
As this is a problem derived from the Clear View Cover case itself, the user is advised to request a refund for it in case of suffering this setback and choose another case to protect their mobile. Only an update could fix the interaction between the screen and this case.
Fingerprint sensor unable to register
The Samsung Galaxy S10 incorporates a supersonic fingerprint registration system under the screen, much faster than those usually found in other terminals. Now some users seem unable to correctly register their fingerprint through the reader. The May update appears to have even made this problem worse.
The first thing the user has to do is see if they have a tempered glass attached to the panel. If so, you will need to remove it. And this is because for the Samsung Galaxy S10's ultrasonic sensor to work properly it must be compatible with its technology. You can also try to register the fingerprints again, deleting the ones you currently have stored.
Remove the default shape of icons
In the renewed interface for the Samsung Galaxy S10 all the icons, whatever their shape, are surrounded by a frame with rounded edges in order to homogenize the design of the screen, something that mobile users have not liked too much. If you want to keep the original shape of the icons you have to do the following.
- Download this application from the Google Play Store.
- Open the application and in the search bar write (without quotes): Icon frames.
- Click on the application that appears and in which you can read 'Icon frames'.
- Then click on 'Try'.
- You are now allowed to disable the default app boxes.
There may be icons for which this application will not work.
Problems with the Bluetooth connection
There are numerous users who have reported problems with the Bluetooth 5.0 connection of this Samsung Galaxy S10. Some claim that the Bluetooth connection with their car suffers continuous drops while others claim that the Bluetooth LDAC audio codec at 990Kbps does not work.
- Delete the cache of your Bluetooth connection: in the settings, then the 'Applications' section, press the three-point menu to select 'Show system applications'. Locate the Bluetooth application and delete the cache using the button that the system offers you for this purpose.
- If you are unable to stream music through your mobile's Bluetooth, make sure you are using the correct audio codec. To do this, we are going to go back to the 'Developer options' and in the 'Networks' section we click on 'Bluetooth Audio Codec'. If we do not know which audio codec is compatible with our terminal, we press the default option.
Another solution is to unpair the Bluetooth device that is not working properly and then re-pair it:
- Go to 'Settings', 'Connections' and 'Bluetooth'.
- Choose the device that gives you the error, press and unpair.
- Restart the mobile and pair the device again.
Do a factory format:
- Go to 'Settings', 'General settings', 'Reset', ' Factory reset '
- Make sure you enter your PIN number or password correctly and that you have a backup of all the mobile data.
Calcy IV app problems
If you play Pokémon GO on your Samsung Galaxy S10, you probably know the Calcy IV app. Some users report crashes using it, receiving 'auto-configuration error' messages.
- To solve this error, we go to the three-point menu in the upper right and click on 'Reset Scan Config'
- Clear the cache and clear the application data
If the application still does not work on your Samsung, you will have to wait for its developer to release an update.
Call quality problems in normal or speakerphone mode
Some users claim that calls are heard very flat, muffled and distant and that when used in normal mode we can hear ourselves.
It is likely that if this occurs it is a hardware failure so you have to request a replacement of your unit as other users have already done.
Proximity sensor problems
If you are experiencing any kind of problem with the proximity sensor of this phone, send a message through this page. This problem usually occurs when we put the mobile in our pocket and the pocket mode is activated. We can solve the problem if we place the screen of it on the part away from your leg. In other users it has been useful to remove or change the cover.
Android Auto problems
Some users claim that they cannot connect their mobile to the car through Android Auto, while others claim that the Android Auto application has a forced dark mode when the device is in Night Mode activated. If you are experiencing this problem, here is what to do to correct it.
- Clear the Android Auto app cache in 'Settings', 'Applications'. Delete both the cache and all its data in the corresponding section.
- Reinstall the app. Keep the application icon pressed for a few seconds until 'Uninstall' appears in the context menu. When the uninstall is done, re-download and install Android Auto from the Play Store.
Then try the connection again. If it still does not connect you will have to wait for an update from Samsung.
Color issues with Samsung's stock camera app
Although the reviews affirm that the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S10 are among the best in the Android market, they are not free from faults, as we saw above all at the beginning of this special. Among these errors, all of them software, are a wrong interpretation of the color, white balance not working, oversaturated greens and an image, perhaps, somewhat unreal with dark and bright areas very contrasted with too much saturation. In addition, the problem persists even if we have activated the HDR mode and the scene optimizer.
One of the quickest solutions to this problem is to install a Google camera mod that is compatible with this model. Practically, all the mobiles to which the Google Gcam can be installed present a very marked improvement in their photographs. Also, be on the lookout for the next Samsung Galaxy S10 camera updates that would soon arrive and fix the camera, offering a better result. It is completely normal to have these failures in terminals that, little by little, and thanks to the updates, are polished until they reach the excellence that marks their price.
Missed LED Notifications
You are not alone: this Samsung Galaxy S10 simply does not have notification LEDs by eliminating the place they always were: the top frame. That is why if you are looking for them like crazy, do not hurry because, simply, they are not there. To remedy this, the Korean brand would be preparing an update that would turn the circular hole in the screen into a notification circle in which the ring was illuminated in one way or another.
Selfie camera problems
Some users claim to be having problems with the front dual-lens camera that the Samsung Galaxy S10 brings. When they use the front camera through a third-party application such as Instagram, Twitter or WhatsApp, the image seen through the sensor is cut off so it is impossible for us to see the final result of the snapshot correctly. In addition, the camera that is activated by default is not the wide angle and we cannot change it, so the image will be even more cropped.
We will have to wait for Samsung to release a camera update to fix this flaw. Until then, try clearing the data and cache of the camera application, and also check to see if there are updates to the applications in which the camera fails.
The mobile gets too hot
This will not be the first or the last mobile that sometimes presents overheating problems. Sometimes it happens when playing with an application for too long, by using the mobile while it is charging or in the summer. Some users are beginning to report this problem on their terminals without knowing the reason very well: simply, one day their mobile was normal and the next day it began to heat up without prior notice.
If this is happening to you, send the model number of your phone, operator (if it is associated with any, and baseband version through this page.
The text cursor jumps to the beginning only
This failure can be very annoying for users of a mobile device. Imagine that you are writing and, without anyone or anything, the entered word cursor jumps to the beginning of the text and you keep writing, turning your message into a real gibberish. This failure usually occurs when the message line ends: instead of going to the beginning of the next one, it is placed at the beginning of everything.
Samsung has not yet declared anything about this failure so we will have to wait for it to send an OTA update of the system or an update of the messaging application. However, as we have said before, we do not know what the movements of the Korean brand will be.
