Samsung continues to work to bring Android 8 to a large part of its Galaxy devices. The company has installed this version in some of its high-end models, although there are still many who are still waiting for their time to come. Very soon the work will accumulate, since Android 9 will break in soon. The final version of the software will be released during August, just like Oreo. This means that by the end of this year and throughout the next Samsung will be rolling out its updates for a part of its terminals. Now, which are candidates to update?
At the moment, the South Korean has not commented on the matter, but the SamMobile medium has drawn up a possible roadmap with some of the Samsung phones that could be candidates to receive Android 9.0 P. As we say, it is not a definitive list and not official. Therefore, what we tell you below could change in a matter of a few months, when Samsung begins to notify its plans.
Samsung phones that could receive Android 9
- Galaxy S9: Could be the first to update
- Galaxy S9 +: It would be one of the first to be updated, at the same time as the S9
- Galaxy S8: Could be the second to update
- Galaxy S8 +: Could be updated at the same time as the S8
- Galaxy Note 8: Would update after the S8
- Galaxy A8 (2018): The update would arrive throughout 2019, with no estimated date
- Galaxy A6 (2018): The update would arrive throughout 2019, with no estimated date
- Galaxy A6 (2018): The update would arrive throughout 2019, with no estimated date
- Galaxy J6 (2018): The update would arrive throughout 2019, with no estimated date
Samsung phones that would not receive Android 9
- Galaxy S7
- Galaxy S7 Edge:
- Galaxy A5 (2017)
- Galaxy A3 (2017)
- Galaxy J7 (2017)
- Galaxy J5 (2017)
- Galaxy Xcover 4
The estimates made follow a pattern of what happened in the last two years. Samsung has traditionally released two major Android updates for its Galaxy S, A, and Note devices. Of all its models, the Galaxy S9 would be the first on the list to receive Android P. This model arrived governed by Oreo, so it would still have two important updates to receive. For its part, the Galaxy Note 9 would land on the market with Oreo, but, like the Galaxy Note 8, it would receive Android P just after it has been launched for the Samsung flagship.
The Galaxy S8 and Note 8 were released with Android 7.0 Nougat, and both have recently been updated to Android 8.0. In this way, Android P is expected to be its second major update, although it will most likely be the last. Also, the Galaxy A8 has not yet been updated to Oreo, which would make Android P its second major update.
Samsung has only released one Android update for the J series, except for the Galaxy J3 (2016), which didn't even get one. Devices like the Galaxy S7, which are already two generations old, would be upgrading to Oreo in the near future. However, this could change if Samsung decides to change its update policy between now and next year. For example, if you make the decision to release updates for the most popular phones for at least three years after their release. There is still no indication that this happens, but if this happens we will let you know immediately.
