The Samsung Galaxy S5 could be made to wait a little longer. Lee Young Hee, vice president of Samsung, has revealed in an interview with the Bloomberg media that the South Korean's next flagship could become the protagonist of a launch in April. Contrary to the rumors that until now were betting on a launch in February, the directive has shed light on some of the future plans that the company has in the short and medium term. Unlike the current Samsung Galaxy S4, the new Samsung Galaxy S5it could see its launch moved to the second quarter of the year. This means that instead of being unveiled in March, Samsung could summon the media for a special event in April 2014. This statement would rule out any movement by the firm at the Mobile World Congress 2014, the mobile phone fair that will be held at the end of February in Barcelona and which could have become the scene of this important launch.
But this is not all that we have been able to know from the hand of the vice president of Samsung. According to Bloomberg, the owner of the Galaxy series would be very interested in competing head-on against Apple, owner of the famous iPhone. And that the latest data for 2013 place the Cupertino one well below the Korean. For its part, during the third quarter of the year, Samsung managed to sell a whopping 81.1 million smart devices, while Apple only reached 33.8 million iPhones sold. The resulting market share is a staggering31.4% for Samsung and just 13.1% for Apple.
Thus, the rumor that bets on the integration of a fingerprint sensor or an iris scanner, something more sophisticated, is valid, which would allow Samsung to challenge the sales of the next iPhone 6. But this is not a safe feature. For now, as Lee Young Hee has indicated, Samsung is still exploring all the options it has on the table.
Apart from commenting on some of its possible features and details about the launch, Samsung's management has mentioned the design, another of the parts that most concerns future buyers of the device. Apparently, this would be one of the most striking features of the next smartphone . The company has taken into account the fact that users of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 will hardly notice any substantial changes from the design of the Samsung Galaxy S3. It is precisely for this reason that the firm promises to return to what it calls "basic sensations." The main changes will be in the screen and in the touch of the cover. Will this be the end of the era of plastic?
Lastly, Hee has also talked about the possibility that the next Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a four-sided screen and is specially designed for professional users. On the other hand, the firm also intends to present the replacement of the current Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch together with the Samsung Galaxy S5. The second generation of this piece could have more functionalities related to health and a special key that would reduce the volume of the synchronized equipment.
