Surely more than one has made the now typical joke of "I even use my mobile phone to make phone calls . The evolution of the use of this type of device has undergone a drastic change in a very short time, mainly supported by the increase in screens and Internet connection. Our mobile 'telephone' is less and less a telephone and more and more a small pocket computer through which we obtain information about practically everything. We can guide ourselves down the street, clear up doubts in conversation, watch movies and series or play a video game for a while. And this is just a tiny part of everything we can do with it.
Yes, we can also make a phone call. Although the vast majority of us, to say something, we prefer to open WhatsApp and send an audio note or a short written note. Now, why do we keep making phone calls instead of using other means of communication?
The mobile, an essential ally for the family
The first study at the national level by Autonomous Community, sex and age carried out in Spain, analyzing the use we make of our mobile phone, has just been published. This study has been carried out by Conecta Research & Consulting for the operator Vodafone. It is based on data extracted from some 2,500 interviews with those born and registered in Spain between the ages of 18 and 65.
What interests us: to what or who do we allocate most of the telephone calls that Spaniards make? 97% of all respondents use calls to get in touch with a family member. Of the 100% of those calls, 81% are directed to speak with the parents, 80% to the couple and 79% to speak with the siblings.
And not only are phone calls still being used, especially to get in touch with the family, but the trend is booming. 96% of Spaniards call their family at least once a week. Parents are the ones who receive the most calls per week (8 out of 10 users surveyed).
A study that contradicts those who attack the mobile phone
This study comes to slightly contradict all those who insist on demonizing the mobile phone with empty campaigns that present slogans such as 'leave your mobile and take care of your loved ones'. The results obtained through this report leave no room for doubt: we use the telephone precisely so as not to lose contact with our loved ones that we do not see regularly and continuously.
Thus, this study informs us that we use the mobile on a regular basis to be in contact with our family and friends: 70% of the total time we spend on the phone is dedicated to our family. In addition, 87% of all those surveyed say that without the mobile they would not be able to maintain a stable and continuous relationship with the people of their family who are not close.
Other interesting data that the study throws up: more than 60% of the use of our phone is to chat with close friends or family through WhatsApp, other messaging applications and, as we said before, make a phone call. The remaining 40% would be devoted, among others, to consulting social networks, a figure below what alarmists expose to demonize the telephone.
It is necessary that we relativize the use of our telephone and not fall into the trap of considering it our enemy to fight. While it is true that it can cause addiction problems (not more serious than others), it is also true that, without it, many people would not be able to be in contact with their loved ones. Being with your family can also be done without being 'physically', we cannot forget about that.
