If you are like the vast majority of people, you have an Android phone in your pocket. And it is that in many markets, the Android market share even reaches 90%. But although it is one of the most successful operating systems, it presents a serious problem: fragmentation. We currently have a minimum of eight versions coexisting and a very important portion of users continue to work with the oldest ones. Today the data that reveals the percentage of devices that work with each of the versions has been presented. And what we have discovered is still revealing. Thus, for every thirty devices that work with Android 4, only one does so with Android 7, which is the most recent version that we can currently access. Everything indicated that January would be a good month for updates to Android 7, but updates are being delayed and we will still have to wait a bit to see the percentage of devices that work with Nougat grow.
Unfortunately, the update to Android 7.0 Nougat has not yet reached common users. So much so, that only 1.2% of the phones that work through this platform do so with the latest version on the market. Do not lose sight of the fact that large teams such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge have not yet received it. The majority of users who use Android continue to have the version corresponding to Android 5 Lollipop installed on their phones, with practically 33% of the share. The next most used edition is Android 6 Marshmallow, which is on the heels of the previous one with 30.7%.Android 4.4 KitKat lags behind these versions, but the truth is that it still enjoys almost 22% of the pie today. Luckily, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Android 2.3 Gingerbread are already practically part of the heavy, with only 2% of phones running these versions. Froyo has disappeared for the first time from the statistics, because we already told you that Google has stopped supporting this version.
Android 7.0 Nougat was presented in the summer of last year, but the truth is that neither Google nor the brands have advanced too much in its propagation. While all the company's devices have already been updated (the Nexus and Pixels are included here), the main equipment of the big brands have not yet received any updates. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge have participated in some preliminary tests and will be the first to receive Android 7.0, but for now the update has not spread to many markets. In Spain, for example, we have not yet been able to test it. SonyIt has stopped updating part of its main devices, although it should start up shortly. Huawei has already updated the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9 and Huawei Nova in our country, as has ZTE with the ZTE Axon 7. Motorola, for its part, has delayed the update in Europe, so we will still have to wait a little to see it in larger models like the X Moto.
And you, for which model are you waiting for the update to Android 7.0 ?
