Yesterday was a big day for Samsung. In addition to finally presenting its long-awaited flexible screen device, the new Samsung Galaxy Fold showed us the complete renovation of its high-end, the Samsung Galaxy S10. Something that users of the brand had been asking a lot was to be able to assign a new action to the dedicated button of their personal assistant, Bixby. An assistant, we must remember, that until recently it did not have compatibility with the Spanish language and that very few used. That is why the button was unable to be used.
This has been confirmed by The Verge in an article published today. Samsung has finally added the settings that make it possible for the user to assign the Bixby button the action they want, such as opening a certain application. In addition, they can also assign a type of action according to the number of presses made to the button.
However, any free settings will continue to be assigned to the Samsung Smart Assistant. For example, if the user assigns a double click to the button to open Instagram, a single click will serve to invoke the assistant and vice versa. And if you long press the button, it will always open Bixby. In this way, the brand ensures that the user will not completely eliminate easy access to the Smart Assistant.
However, previously, the user could reassign the function of the Bixby button but had to use third-party applications, which could compromise the security of the terminal. This new function is not available, at the moment, for terminals like the Samsung Galaxy S9, despite having a dedicated Bixby button. The original source of the news has contacted those responsible for the brand to find out if it is among their plans to adapt the reassignment of the Bixby button to old terminals, but the answer remains pending.
So now you know, with your new Samsung Galaxy S10 you can, natively, do whatever you want with the Bixby button, something that users have been demanding for a long time.
