Design without many changes
The OnePlus 7 does not risk in design like its older brother. In this sober and compact terminal, we see the same design as its predecessor. But yes, there have been improvements. They may not be obvious at first glance, but it's the small changes that make the difference. On the front we have a large screen, it is 6.41 inches with a conservative Full HD + resolution or 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The result of this screen diagonal together with this resolution is a density of pixels per inch of 402, more than enough to consume multimedia content in high definition.
The panel technology as well as OnePlus has accustomed us is AMOLED, and more specifically Optic AMOLED in the OnePlus 7. Complying with the most widespread color standards such as Adobe sRGB and Display P3. In case it is necessary to clarify, this screen has a 19.5: 9 format, being longer than wide. This facilitates the reduction of frames along the terminal, the lower frame being the most prominent of the entire front. The notch or notch is still present at the top, just below the earpiece for calls that also serves as a front speaker.
This notch is not new, we have already seen it in the OnePlus 6T. Its water drop shape allows it not to break up too much on the screen and is easy to forget after a while of use. This front and being more specific, this screen has a fingerprint reader integrated into it. According to OnePlus, this reader has been improved and compared to the previous generation is faster, more efficient and secure. This is achieved thanks to the increase in size of the optical sensor, and the third plastic lens that compose it. To all this, we must also add the new fingerprint detection algorithms, in the end the result is an unlock in 0.21 seconds. Without a doubt one of the fastest on the market.
The construction of the terminal is designed to last and that is why OnePlus has opted for premium materials. The OnePlus 7 is made up of glass and metal, a rear with a glossy finish available in two colors: black and red. On this rear we also find the logo of the firm, located just below the vertical capsule where the cameras and the dual-tone LED flash are housed. Going down even further we see the USB C port accompanied by two grilles, one of them is the microphone and the other a speaker that is combined with the upper one to give stereo sound. In addition, this sound system has been created with the collaboration of Dolby and therefore carries its certification.
Power to the last with a software to match
If we look under their chassis we would see a processor signed by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855. This processor is built in 7 nanometers and composed of eight cores with a clock speed of up to 2.84 GHz. It is accompanied by 6 or 8 GB of RAM. and 128 or 256 GB for storage. The latter being UFS 3.0.2-LANE, which will offer considerably high read and write speeds. If this were not enough, your USB C has also been updated and is now 3.1 GEN1, overall the transfer and copy of data from a computer to the terminal will be extremely fast.
In the autonomy section, the OnePlus 7 is well served, it does not reach the 4,000mAh of its older brother but it is not far behind with its 3,700mAh either. In addition, to this capacity must be added the fast charge of 5V and 4A that promises to charge the terminal in just over an hour. OnePlus has not forgotten about gamers, the Snapdragon 855 comes with the Adreno 640 GPU. Initially with this processor, RAM and GPU we will move the heaviest games on the market without any problem. Fortnite, PUBG will not resist and their frame rate per second will be more than respectable.
OxygenOS is the customization or software layer that runs above the Android version in OnePlus terminals. It comes in its latest version and based on Android 9.0 Pie, many users are lovers of this software. Its reaction speed and its design similar to Android Stock, but with additions in favor of greater customization are some of its main characteristics. But with the arrival of the OnePlus 7, the Asian firm has included software improvements such as screen recording natively or Zen Mode. The latter is a mode that tries to get away from the phone for a period of 20 minutes, with this what they want is for users to focus on life and you can enjoy it away from the screens. Another feature is RAM Boost, a smart RAM manager that learns from the user's habits to improve the experience of using the terminal.
Photographic section with double rear camera
The OnePlus 7 is conservative, all the photographic innovation has been taken by its older brother. On its back, we will find two sensors, a 48-megapixel main one signed by Sony and a 5-megapixel secondary one. That they are conservative is not an indication of having rested on their laurels. These cameras on paper promise, the main sensor integrates both optical and electronic stabilization (OIS + EIS). The focal length is bright, f / 1.7 allowing more light to be captured in difficult scenarios. It is accompanied by a PDAF autofocus that improves focus by being faster and more precise.
In the secondary sensor, dedicated to capturing greater depth, it has a focal aperture f / 2.4. More than enough, theoretically at least, to achieve a stunning and convincing blur effect. The camera application also integrates added modes that improve usability: Nightscape, Studio Lighting, Portrait Mode, Professional Mode, Panorama, HDR, RAW Image and UltraShot. Of course, artificial intelligence is also present and integrates with the AI Scene Detection system. A mode similar to the one we see in Huawei terminals, where the camera detects the type of scene and makes the adjustments to get the best photograph.
Video recording has been improved with different modes. With the main sensor you can record at 4K in two frame rates, 30 and 60 fps. Also as normal there is a recording mode at 1080p, 30 and 60 fps. Other modes such as Super Slow Motion or slow motion, which, depending on the frames, record at one resolution or another. If we want to record at 480 fps, the resolution drops to 720p while if we record at 240 fps the resolution we have is 1080p. Other modes such as Time-Lapse are included and we now also have a video editor within the application itself.
High-end connectivity and security
Despite not being the most advanced terminal of OnePlus, the OnePlus 7 is still a high-end. Its connectivity is expected in a terminal of this range. In wireless connections we have Wi-Fi 2 × 2 MIMO, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, 2.4G / 5G; Bluetooth version 5.0 with support for aptX, aptX HD, LDAC and AAC audio codecs; LTE / LTE-A with up to 1Gbps download and 150Mbsp upload; NFC, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, A-GPS. The only thing we do not have is wireless charging and a headphone port, two absences that we already saw in the OnePlus 6T.
We anticipated the integrated fingerprint reader on the screen, but it is not the only security system included in the OnePlus 7. The facial unlocking is also present, it is done through the front camera. This facial unlocking despite having a lower level of security than the fingerprint, is really fast and solvent for situations in which we cannot access with the fingers (use of gloves). The unlocking speed is as expected, it is not as fast as that of an iPhone X that has infrared sensors, but enough for its use to be satisfactory.
OnePlus 7 price and availability
The OnePlus 7 will be available from June and at a price that varies depending on the version we choose. For the 128GB version with 6GB the price will be 559 euros, the 256GB version with 8GB the price goes up to 609 euros. It is available in two colors already mentioned, red and black with a glossy finish. OnePlus now sells its terminals on platforms such as Amazon, but also on its own website from which we leave you a link with a discount for accessories. We can only wait to be able to test this terminal and thus offer you our impressions.
