- How to configure the cards in the Discover section
Little by little, and without us almost realizing it, the Google Assistant has become an essential tool for many of us. Talking to the mobile phone and having it carry out tasks that, in other times, would have needed our obligatory help, is something that has made our lives much more comfortable. Open applications, write down items on the shopping list, turn on the house lights, set alarms and reminders… We do not have to go, necessarily, to complex commands and difficult tasks. The simple fact of setting an alarm can be done with the only use of our voice… even send a WhatsApp message to a specific contact.
As there are so many commands that we can tell the Assistant, we have decided to create a ranking list so that you have the most recurring and useful ones at hand. This special is going to come in handy until you have assimilated them and get used to using the Google Assistant for everything. We warn you that once you start there is no going back.
How to have the Google Assistant activated on our mobile
Before we start saying 'Ok Google' we have to see if we can have the Assistant on our phone and, later, configure it and activate it to use it with our voice. The requirements to have the Google Assistant are as follows.
- Minimum 1.5 GB of RAM
- Android 6 Marshmallow or higher
- Latest version of Google Play Services
- Latest version of the Google app
- Screen with 720p minimum resolution
Does your mobile meet these requirements? So let's configure it properly. For this we are going to go to the Google application that we all have pre-installed on our Android mobile. Within the 'More' configuration menu of the app we go to 'Settings' and then 'Voice'. On the next screen we go to ' Google Match ' and, within this screen, we activate 'Access with Voice Match', having to say 'Ok, Google' up to four times for the mobile to properly register your voice.
Now you can say ' Ok Google ' on any screen. When you say so, a pop-up window will open at the bottom of the screen for you to register the command you order below.

Tricks you can do with the Google Assistant
We are going to enter the Google application of our mobile again. Then, in the 'More' tab we enter 'Settings' and, here, in 'Google Assistant'. Here we will find everything we need to improve our Assistant and leave it to our personal taste. We show you what we can do in this section.
Personal information
What should your Personal Assistant call you? (Remember that you can also configure this with your voice), what is the address of your home and your work? And your favorite means of transport? In this section we can also see the history of our flight reservations, our online purchases and which are the payment methods included.
Assistant
In this section we find settings as interesting as the continuous conversation. If we activate this switch, the device's microphone will turn on again after each answer given by the assistant, in case you want to ask something else. It is interesting to leave this option activated to create the illusion of a fluid conversation without having to say 'Ok, Google'.
Here we will be able to configure the very comfortable Google routines. Google Routines consist of words that are associated with a chain of commands and that are activated when we say them out loud. For example, by saying 'Good morning' we can have the Assistant tell us the weather information, the news and turn on the air conditioning.
Also in this section we can add smart devices from other brands, such as Xiaomi, to domotize the house, such as smart bulbs.
Services
In this section we are going to configure the default applications that the Wizard will use for its tasks. For example, we will assign our music playback service, our calendar, shopping list, etc. Just click on each of the sections and choose the default application for each of them.
home
Here we are going to configure our smart speaker, see the smart devices that we have connected to our WiFi network.
How to configure the cards in the Discover section
Thanks to the Discovr section we can have, in the same panel, all the news, articles and specials that interest us, based on the searches we generally do with our Google Chrome browser. But, sometimes, some of the results offered do not interest us too much. Imagine that we have been for work in a city. The mobile detects the change of location and, from then on, begins to send us news from that city, even if we are not interested. How can we adjust or even block the sources of certain news?
The first screen we see when entering the Google application is precisely that of 'Discover'. First of all we will always see the weather information and then, in the form of cards, the news of interest.
In these cards we have two sections to configure them, a small switch located in the lower right corner and a three-point menu in the upper right corner. In the switch, when pressed, we will be saying if we want to see more or less news related to the subject (which we can see at the top of the card). If, on the other hand, what we want is that no more news appear in our panel related to the topic, the word or even the source from which the news comes, we have to click on the three-point button located in the part Upper right.
If you look at the menu that appears when you click on the three dots, we have an interesting section called 'Personalize Discover'. If we press, we will access a screen where we can add topics of interest such as ' Sports', 'Cinema', 'Television,' Musicians' or 'Technology'. In 'All settings' we can include series that we are following, public figures in which we have an interest, musicians, athletes, etc.
