New leaks indicate that South Korean company Samsung may have recently ordered an order for five million waterproof cell phone antennas. These antennas would be incorporated in the next flagship of the company, the Samsung Galaxy S5. If this news is confirmed, this new smartphone would incorporate the feature of water resistance and most likely also the feature of dust resistance.
But this is not the first time that rumors have appeared about a waterproof version of the Samsung Galaxy S5. A few days ago a leak appeared stating that the South Korean company had already prepared the launch of a Samsung Galaxy S5 Active that would accompany the original version of the phone in its presentation. This Active version would be precisely the off-road version of the Galaxy S5, since the phone would offer exactly the same specifications with the peculiarity that it would continue to work if we dropped it in the water or in the sand.
The off-road versions are nothing new at Samsung. A few months ago, after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the South Koreans also launched a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active that offered a slightly more robust design than the original phone and included the feature of resistance to both water and dust. In this case, the design of the waterproof phone was different from the original model, while in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S5, it is expected that both designs do not present great differences between them.
If we take a look at the competitor manufacturers, the truth is that resistance to water and dust are two specifications that are increasingly in demand by users. And it is not for less considering the current price of smartphones. For example, the Sony Xperia Z from the Japanese company Sony is a terminal that goes completely unnoticed as far as design is concerned. Still, it also incorporates the feature of water and dust resistance.
Some sources also point out that the waterproof version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 could incorporate higher-level features compared to the normal version. It is not the first time that two versions of the Galaxy S5 have been discussed, so this possibility should not be ruled out in the absence of Samsung officially presenting its new smartphone.
For now, the official presentation of this terminal is expected to take place in Barcelona, taking advantage of the mobile phone event MWC (Mobile World Congress) that will be held between February 24 and 27. This event will be called Unpacked 5, and it is assumed that it will be the official presentation of this smartphone since it refers to the number five that corresponds to the version of the Samsung Galaxy that we will receive this year.
