The free version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Spain is beginning to receive a new update this morning that responds to the name I9505XXUEMKF and occupies a total of 129.54 megabytes. Unfortunately it is not the official update of Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Android for which the owners of this terminal will still have to wait some time. In principle, this update should have been launched at the end of this year, but it seems that we will have to wait until the first months of 2014 to update the S4 to the latest version of the Android operating system.
And what news does this update to the Samsung Galaxy S4 incorporate ? The most striking improvement of all is the compatibility of this mobile with the Samsung Galaxy Gear, the smart watch of the South Korean company Samsung. After having sold more than 800,000 smart watches around the world, it was time for Samsung to add the compatibility of the free S4 with the Galaxy Gear, taking into account that other versions of this terminal have been compatible with the smart watch for a long time.
The update also includes a general improvement in the phone's performance, something that has been achieved by improving the management of the RAM memory and adjusting the colors of the screen to achieve a much sharper image. This general performance improvement includes more technical innovations such as support for OpenGL 3.0, ANT + and TRIM (a series of protocols related to mobile operation).
To all these novelties we must also add a new Samsung digital keyboard, a new reading mode and an update of the terminal's camera driver. In addition to this, from now on there will be two new applications installed as standard on the mobile: Samsung Knox, an application that improves mobile security, and Samsung Wallet, an application that allows us to save the purchases we make throughout the week and it also allows us to enjoy different discounts.
Perhaps this update corresponds to the last improvement that the Samsung smartphone will receive before updating to Android 4.4 KitKat. It would not be surprising if Samsung released a previous update with the intention of preparing the S4 to receive the new version of the Android operating system. The only thing left to know is… will that update occur before the end of 2013?
As indicated at the beginning of this article, for now the only users who are receiving this update are those with a free S4. All those who have this smartphone contracted under an operator must wait a few days to receive the same update on their mobiles. In the event that a user has not received the notification of their update on their mobile, it is advisable to check if said update is already available by entering the Settings menu, clicking on " About device " and then on " Software update ".
