Good news for lovers of Nexus smartphones (much appreciated for having little customization layer and offering a “purer” Android experience): many details are already known about the next Nexus Marlin and Nexus Sailfish phones, which will probably be manufactured in collaboration with HTC brand.
After the success of the Nexus 6P manufactured by Huawei and the Nexus 5X put on sale by LG, it seems that the renewal of the Nexus line will also come this time with two terminals simultaneously.
Some features of the new Nexus smartphones
Both the Nexus Marlin as the Nexus Sailfish will have main 13 megapixel camera and front camera 8 megapixel, and have the same processor (probably Snapdragon 820 or Snapdragon 821), 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable with external microSD card.
In terms of design, it is very likely that the two models have a very similar aesthetic, with the back of two-tone glass (black and gray). The Nexus Marlin would also incorporate a metal frame, while the Nexus Sailfish would be plastic.
The two models are expected to be officially launched in September or October. And the launch could come with a surprise: it is likely that the Nexus name will disappear and that the terminals will be marketed only with the Google logo.
Many aspects in common between the two terminals
The Nexus Marlin phone will have a 5.5-inch screen that could be 2K resolution, although we will have to wait for more data to be able to confirm it. It is expected that there will be no physical or capacitive buttons on the front, although the phone will have a circular fingerprint sensor on the rear.
The Nexus Sailfish model will have a practically identical design, although with a plastic frame instead of metal. The screen would be 5.2 inches with FullHD resolution.
As for the battery, the Nexus Marlin will incorporate a 3450 mAh, while the Sailfish will be closer to 3000 mAh.
Regarding the hardware, the two models will also share almost identical characteristics: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor "" although the Nexus Marlin could incorporate the Snapdragon 821 "", 4 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 32 GB. Google is likely to release versions with 64GB of storage as well.
The standard operating system will be Android 7.0 Nougat for both phones.
Release date and prices
The two models have already received their technical certifications, so they are expected to be launched very soon (they could even arrive in September).
Taking into account the technical specifications of the new Nexus smartphones, and considering the previous models, it can be assumed that in Europe they would be sold at a price similar to that of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. These are some indicative amounts:
- Around 650 euros for the 32GB Nexus Marlin. In the event that a 64 GB model goes on sale, its price could be around 700 euros.
- The Nexus Sailfish could go on sale for around $ 500 to $ 520 with 32GB internal storage.
