The Japanese company Sony already announced it a few months ago: all mobile phones in the Xperia Z range will be updated to the Lollipop version of the Android operating system. But what has not been announced so far, at least not so directly, is that no smartphone models outside the Xperia Z range will receive the Lollipop update. Translated into other words, this means that phones like the Sony Xperia M2, the Sony Xperia C3 or the Sony Xperia T3 Ultra will be left without the Lollipop update.
The confirmation of this news has taken place in the official Twitter account of Sony's mobile division ( @sonyxperia ), where we find numerous responses published a few days ago in which it can be read that “ The Android 5.0 Lollipop update will only be available for the Xperia Z range. We apologize for the inconvenience . " These messages have been posted in response to users inquiring about the availability of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on different Sony smartphone models.
As indicated by the Italian website HDBlog , many Sony smartphones with less - or just over - a year on the market will not go beyond the Android 4.4 KitKat version of the Android operating system. We are talking about terminals such as the Sony Xperia C3, Sony Xperia E1, Sony Xperia E3, Sony Xperia M2, Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra or Sony Xperia T3, all of them officially presented during 2014.
On the other hand, Sony smartphones that are officially confirmed to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is not exactly short. The entire Sony Xperia Z range will be updated to Lollipop, and the mobiles included within this update are the following: Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, also including Sony Xperia Tablet Z tablets, Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Now, regarding the dates of the distribution of the Lollipop update on Sony phones, things do not seem so clear. At the moment, Sony is limited to informing users that the Lollipop update will begin to be distributed soon on the highest-end mobiles of the Xperia line (starting with the Sony Xperia Z3, presumably). In fact, at the last MWC 2015 tech event, attendees had the opportunity to test a Sony Xperia Z3 with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which would confirm that the update is now complete and ready for worldwide distribution.
