Lenovo has announced the Moto Z2 Play in Spain. The device arrives to succeed the Moto Z Play, a model that we met last year at the IFA in Berlin. Like its older brother, this phone continues to maintain the concept of Moto Mods for the mid-range. Of course, this time some improvements have been included in terms of design and the photographic section. To this must be added new Moto Mods that are released with the device. We can highlight among them a portable console, wireless charging, speaker or more battery. The new Moto Z2 Play will land in Spain in August at a recommended price of 400 euros.

If we look closely, the Moto Z2 Play looks very similar to its predecessor. We say similar because it is similar, but not the same. And the fact is that the company has introduced quite important design changes. The Moto Z Play came with a metal back casing and a glass front. For this occasion, Lenovo has chosen a one-piece aluminum chassis. It is also somewhat thinner than the first model, at just 5.9 millimeters thick. This has led him to sacrifice autonomy somewhat, as we will see later.
If we turn it around, we find a main camera that stands out from the terminal again. We also find the connector for the Moto Mods. The fingerprint reader is located this time on the front, right on the start button. In addition to blocking, it will also be used to perform gestures and to be able to move better through the interface.
New Moto Mods for all tastes
As we say, one of its greatest attractions is the possibility of adding Moto Mods, those extra attachments with which to increase the possibilities of the terminal. This time they add a GamePad, which will turn the device into a kind of console controller and will give it an additional 1,035 mAh of battery. It also embraces a new JBL speaker, plus Moto Style Shells, or a wireless charger. Likewise, the screen of the Moto Z2 Play has a size of 5.5 inches and a FullHD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The technology used is Super AMOLED.
Inside the Moto Z2 Play there is room for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor, which comes to improve last year's Snapdragon 625. Lenovo has also added more RAM and from the 3 GB of the previous model we now go to 4 GB. The storage capacity also rises from 32 GB to 64 GB (expandable using microSD-type cards).
A renewed photographic section
As for the photographic section, the new Moto Z2 Play bets on a 12 megapixel main camera with a hybrid focus system that fuses Dual Pixel technology and laser focus. It has an aperture f / 1.7 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. For its part, the secondary camera offers a resolution of 5 megapixels and widens the aperture (f / 2.0). To this we must also add a two-tone LED flash that will allow us to take nightly selfies in conditions.
Less battery for a good cause
And the cause is none other than reducing the overall thickness of the device. This is why Lenovo has introduced a smaller battery than last year's model. From 3,510 mAh it has been lowered to 3,000 mAh. However, Lenovo continues to emphasize the autonomy of this model and ensures that it offers up to 30 hours of duration. This is something that we question. We will have to analyze it more calmly in case of making a thorough of this phone. For the rest, the device comes with Android 7.1.1 and a list of connections to match: LTE, WiFi a / b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, minijack, USB-C. It should also be mentioned that it is completely resistant to splashes.
Price and availability
The Moto Z2 Play will go on sale in Spain next August. The device will land on the market at a price of 400 euros. We are talking about the cost of the free phone. We will have to wait to see how much the different operators in our country reduce us so that we can get something cheaper.
