One of the main peculiarities of the personalization layer of Xiaomi phones, called MIUI, is to have all the user applications out. In the manner of iOS on an iPhone, the owner of a Xiaomi mobile phone had to have all their applications placed on desktop screens, instead of having all of them in a drawer and taking out the only ones that presented greater use. This is, without a doubt, one of the main obstacles that the Android user encounters when switching to a Xiaomi mobile, being used to the application drawer and, at a stroke, having them all out.
How to activate the application drawer in MIUI
Thanks to the fact that the user can install launchers such as Poco, developed by Xiaomi itself, or Nova Launcher, it can recover the application drawer, in addition to many other customization functions. Whoever preferred to continue with the system launcher should do so bearing in mind that it would not have an application drawer… until now. Apparently, Xiaomi wants its default system launcher to be similar to the Poco Launcher and, in an Alpha version that appeared a few days ago, it included the possibility of enabling the application drawer. In the manner of EMUI, the Huawei layer, the user, in the launcher settings, could choose between having the applications out or recovering the application drawer.
This version now brings new features and it has been updated to make it compatible with gestures. Specifically, with the gesture of swiping up on the screen and the drawer is automatically shown to us. In the first Alpha version of the default launcher, the drawer was opened by pressing a button, something that has already been obsolete. If you want to try the new MIUI launcher, keep reading that we show you how to do it.
First we are going to go to this page of the APK Mirror repository and download the most current version of the launcher, which corresponds to the numbering v4.10.6.1038-06251834. Once downloaded and installed, we are going to configure this launcher by default, in case you were using another. For this, we are going to go to 'Settings-System and device-Home screen and recent-Default launcher-System launcher'.
Now that we have it as a default we can start using it. If you want to have the application drawer enabled, press and hold the screen, in a free space, for a few seconds until a menu appears at the bottom of the screen with three icons, 'Wallpaper', 'Widgets' and' Settings '. We enter the latter. Then, in the window that appears, click on 'More', as we show you in the screenshot.
On the next screen you will see some Chinese characters. This is because the version of the launcher is not yet fully translated and may even give bugs or show some instability. Press where the Chinese characters and, on the next screen, you will see two options. The first, if you choose it, you will continue with the off-screen applications as always. If you choose the second option, the application drawer will appear directly, which you can display by sliding your finger up on the desktop screen. That's how easy it is to have an application drawer in MIUI again without changing the launcher!
