If there has been something that has started with MIUI 10 it is precisely the battery management. With MIUI 11 just around the corner, many users are wondering how to save battery life on Xiaomi. Proof of this are the search intentions that we can find in search engines such as Google or Yahoo ("MIUI uses a lot of battery", "battery saving in MIUI 10" and so on). Unfortunately, there is no magic application or method that can help us increase battery life in Xiaomi, so we are forced to play with the system options.
Most of the methods that we will see below are compatible with any Xiaomi mobile with MIUI 10, so it is applicable to any phone of the brand. Xiaomi Mi A1, A2, A3, A2 Lite, Redmi Note 4, Note 5, Note 6 Pro, Note 7, Note 8, Mi 8, Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi 5, Redmi 6, Redmi 7…
If you have an AMOLED screen, turn on dark mode
Applying dark mode on MIUI or any phone with an AMOLED screen can save up to 20% of battery in the total consumption of the phone throughout the day. The most advisable thing, therefore, is to apply this mode through the system settings.
We can do it in the Screen section, and more specifically from the Dark Mode option.
Restrict the use of background apps
Applications like Facebook and Tinder can cause a significant energy expenditure even if we do not use them. In this case, it is essential to reduce the use of the processor and the data that these types of applications generate in the background.
The way to proceed is as simple as accessing the Battery and performance option in MIUI Settings. In this section we will click on Select applications.
Now we just have to select the applications whose background activity we want to restrict and activate the option Restrict background applications or Restrict background activity. Activating any of these will, however, lose the synchronization of notifications.
Disable mobile data when mobile is locked
If our main use is based on using mobile data to connect to the Internet, an effective method to save battery is to deactivate this connection when the phone screen is kept off.
Within the same Battery and performance section that we have previously accessed we can find the Battery Optimization option. If we click on the gear that will appear in the upper right corner, a series of settings will appear: the one that interests us is to Deactivate mobile data when the device is locked.
The advisable thing in this case is to mark 5 or even 10 minutes.
And clear the cache when the screen is off
Another trick that we can carry out when the mobile is locked is to clear the application cache.
The process to follow is the same as that we have just detailed, only this time we will have to select the option to Clear the cache when the device is locked. The timeframe this time should be 30 minutes so as not to force the phone's processor.
Activate battery saving and optimize its consumption
I could not miss the most basic trick to save battery: activate the battery saver. As simple as sliding the notification panel down and clicking on the homonymous option.
We can configure some of the restrictions in this way in the respective section within Battery optimization. Within this same section we can activate the so-called Battery Optimizer by clicking on Optimize to obtain even more coarse battery savings.
Monitor the battery consumption of applications and phone
Does MIUI consume a lot? It may be due to a frozen background process or a faulty component. To see the consumption that each application or component performs on the phone, we will only have to access the Battery and performance section in Settings and click on Energy use.
Although the application shows us a fairly detailed consumption of everything that passes through the system, it is best to resort to the GSam Batery Monitor application, where it will also show the detailed consumption of each process that runs on Android and if the processor enters Deep Sleep (state of rest). If we detect anomalous consumptions, we can check the name of the process in Google and its origin.
Other tricks to save battery in MIUI
There are not few methods that we can carry out to save battery in Xiaomi. Reducing the brightness or deactivating the connections when we are not making use of these are some of the practices that we can apply, in addition to deactivating settings such as automatic brightness or screen rotation.
Another trick to improve battery saving is based on deactivating the activation of the screen when notifications are received, an adjustment that we can configure in the Lock screen section. If we access the Applications section in Settings we can play with the automatic start of the applications when we turn on the mobile; specifically in the Permissions section.
Hasn't it served? Format your mobile from scratch
If nothing described here has worked, the last method we can carry out before claiming that it is a battery problem is based on formatting the phone from scratch. We will do it through the Hard Reset method, with which we will erase all system files and their content. For this reason, it is recommended to make a backup beforehand.
With the mobile off, we will press and hold the Power and Volume buttons up at the same time until the Xiaomi logo appears. Later we will click on select the option to Clean data or Wipe Data and we will accept the operation with the Power button.
When the process is finished we will click on Restart now or Reboot now to start the mobile normally.
