Disable WiFi search as location method
This is an option that many users are unaware of, but it is the cause of some headaches. Our device uses different criteria to determine its location, and one of them is through WiFi.
To check that this option is not creating conflicts, go to Settings >> Connections >> Location >> Improve accuracy >> Search with WiFi. Deactivate this option, restart the mobile and check if it improves the WiFi on your Samsung.
Always keep the WiFi on
One configuration option that can cause intermittent connection on your device is the one that allows you to choose when we want to keep the WiFi on.
One way to save battery is to keep the WiFi off when we are not using the device. However, this can play tricks on you. Make sure you have this option set to "Always" as you see in the image.
You will find this option in Connections >> WiFi >> Advanced >> Keep WiFi on…. ”. In this way, the WiFi will not be disconnected when the mobile has the screen off.
Check WiFi control history
If you have doubts if any application is affecting the WiFi connection you can go to Connections >> WiFi >> Advanced >> WiFi control history.
It will show you a list of recent applications that have activated or deactivated the connection. You may be surprised to see an application that you didn't even know you had installed, or that a virus disguised as an app has crept into your mobile.
If you find something suspicious, look for a way to uninstall it or solutions to remove it from your device.
Adjust router settings
If you have the strange problem that your Samsung mobile (as with the Galaxy A70) connects to any WiFi except your home network, try adjusting a small detail in the router configuration.
It will depend on your router model, but basically it is a matter of looking for the 802.11 Mode option and choosing “bgn-mode Mixed” or a similar term as shown in the image of the DIR ‑ 880L router Help Center:
After this change in the configuration, the mobile should detect the WiFi network of your house without problems.
Test WiFi in Safe Mode
A quick way to check that the WiFi problem is not a consequence of a bad configuration or apps that you have installed is to try Safe Mode.
To do this, you have to turn off your Samsung mobile. When you turn it on and you see the Samsung logo press the volume down button. You will see that the device system starts but with a message that says "Safe Mode".
Now test if you can connect to WiFi and how it works. If you do not have problems in this way then some application you have installed is causing conflict or abusing the enabled permissions.
Check apps permission
Another way to check if there are applications that are creating problems with the WiFi or are working incorrectly is by checking the granted permissions. In this case, location permissions since they can cause conflicts with the operation of the WiFi.
To verify this go to Settings >> Applications >> Application permissions >> Location. You will see a list of apps that have this permission enabled. Disable the permission of those that you consider conflicting and test if you notice improvements in the WiFi.
Reset network settings
This option allows you to delete all data and WiFi settings without having to reset your mobile. Go to Settings >> General Management >> Reset >> Reset Network Settings.
Or if the problem of your Samsung is the connection with the current network (and you do not want to delete the rest of the settings) then simply delete the data of the corresponding WiFi network. Restart the mobile and the router, and again add the data of the WiFi network from scratch.
Tips to keep in mind
Sometimes mobile problems generate so much stress that we forget the obvious options that these inconveniences can cause us. So before getting complicated with settings make sure you have taken these details into account:
- Always keep your mobile device up to date, as manufacturers release emergency patches and updates when they detect problems.
- Do you have a metal case on your mobile that can cause intermittent WiFi? You lose nothing by removing the cover for a moment and trying this possibility
- Have too many apps syncing at the same time? This can cause the WiFi to be slower than normal.
- Is your router properly configured? Are other devices connecting properly?
If you have tried all the options we saw and you still have WiFi problems, then you may want to try returning the mobile to factory settings. But the ideal at this point is to take it to technical service to assess whether it may be a problem that needs professional assistance.
