Has your Samsung mobile suddenly stopped recognizing the SD card? Although it may seem like a rare problem, the truth is that it is more frequent than it seems. The origin of this problem can be due to different reasons. The partition system has been corrupted, the card has been damaged, the phone chip is not able to recognize the card and so on. There is a solution for each of these problems, although none assures us to recover the data stored in memory.

Take out the card, clean it and reinsert it
The first thing we will have to do before proceeding with more advanced methods is to extract the micro SD card from the corresponding tray and clean it with a dry chamois. It is also recommended to blow a little air into the compartment of the phone to eliminate any trace of dust or dirt that can cause poor contact between circuits. All this, of course, with the phone turned off.
Before turning the mobile on again, we insert the card in its corresponding tray. Now yes, we can turn on the device.
Insert the card in another device
If our Samsung phone still does not recognize the micro SD card, it is very likely that the problem is due to a failure in the chip that reads the card. To rule out a defect in the phone board, the next thing we will have to do is insert the card into another device.
It can be a mobile phone, a camera or even a computer through the corresponding adapter. If the device recognizes the card and is capable of writing to the memory (moving files, copying documents…), it is most likely that our phone has some kind of defect. If we have another micro SD card we can insert it into the device to confirm that the device is unable to recognize any card.
Restore your phone before sending it for repair
Before contacting Samsung technical service we can try to restore the phone to rule out software problems. We can do it through the Reset section that we can find in the Settings application (depending on the version of Android and One UI).
Format the card from a computer (losing data)
As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, there is a possibility that the card's partition system has been corrupted for various reasons. To restructure this system we will have to do a complete format of the card from Windows, Mac or Linux.
In Windows this process is as simple as right-clicking on the drive that corresponds to our card and finally on the Format option. Now an image like the one we can see below will appear:
In this case, it is advisable to select FAT32 in the file system and deselect the Quick Format option in Format Options. Finally we will reinsert the card on the phone.
CHKDSK, the command that solves everything
The last solution we can turn to is to repair the card using the CHKDSK command. This command will repair any internal or external drive that we have entered in the computer. Before proceeding we will have to know exactly the letter of the unit to which our card corresponds. For example, E:, F: or G:, depending on the number of devices that we have introduced in the equipment.
The next thing we will have to do is open the command machine, which we can access by typing the word CMD in the Windows search menu. To run this tool we will have to right click on the program and click on Run with administrator privileges.
Finally, we will enter the following command:
- chkdsk N: / F / R (where N is the drive of the SD card we have seen earlier)
When the system finishes fixing all the errors, we will put the card back into the phone.
