"My Huawei does not detect the SD card", "The SD card does not recognize me in Huawei", "Problems with the SD card in Huawei"… Dozens of users have recently reported problems with the micro SD cards in Huawei phones. The lifespan of a micro SD card depends on the quality of the card and the maximum number of writes supported by the unit. It can also be the case that the partition system has been corrupted by misuse of the card. This time we have compiled some solutions to repair a damaged SD card in a Huawei mobile, regardless of the model of the terminal.

Format the card from another mobile phone
If we have a secondary mobile with a microSD card tray, we can try to format the card from the Android options. On Huawei phones, this process is as simple as going to the Storage section within the Settings application.
Next, we will select the memory card inserted. Finally we will click on Format and then on Delete and format, as we can see in the image above.
Now we can re-enter it in the main phone to verify that the system recognizes it correctly.
Format the SD card from a computer
Have you used the SD card in a device other than the mobile phone, be it a camera or a console? Then it is very likely that the card has a format that the system is not able to recognize. The only solution is to format the card from a computer, be it Windows, macOS or Linux. Before proceeding, we will have to upload the Lock tab on the SD card adapter to enable read and write operations.
In Windows 7, 8 and 10 this process is as simple as opening This computer and right-clicking on the drive of our micro SD card (D:, E:, F: etc.). Next we will select the Format option and finally FAT32 in Format type. To avoid possible errors we will deactivate the Quick Format option.
On macOS and Linux-based systems we can use Disk Utility or GParted to follow this same process.
CHKDSK to repair SD card from Windows
CHKDSK is a small Windows tool that allows us to repair any drive hosted on our computer, whether internal or external. This program has to be invoked through the system command machine, also known as CMD.
To invoke the CMD we will write the name of the program ("CMD" or "Command") in the Windows search bar. Then we will right-click on the program icon to run it with administration privileges. This step is very important, since the command will not be executed if we do not have the pertinent permissions.
Once inside the program we will write the following command:
- chkdsk n: (where n is the letter of the drive of our SD card, information that we can know through this equipment)
Then, the system will begin reviewing the existing errors on the SD card. To repair possible card errors, we will enter the following command:
- chkdsk n: / f (where n is the card letter)
Finally, Windows will repair all the sectors that have generated some type of error. The repair process can take several minutes. Once finished, we will write the command ' exit' and we will eject the SD card from this computer.
If CHKDSK doesn't work, DISKPART is the solution
DISKPART is another Windows CMD command that we can use to solve problems with external and internal drives. To access this through the Windows command machine we will have to enter the following command:
- diskpart
Later we will introduce the following command to display a list with all the units entered:
- disk list
To identify the micro SD card, we will check that its size corresponds to the value indicated in the Size section (16, 32, 64, 128 GB…). Once located, we will look at the disk number to later interact with the unit in question.
The last step will be to enter a certain command string in the following order:
- create partition primary
- select partition n (where n is the number of the drive we want to format)
- active
- format fs = fat32
The card will automatically be formatted in FAT32, the native Android format.
Low Level Format Tool to format the card at a low level
Another program that will allow us to regain access to the SD card is Low Level Format Tool. As its name indicates, the tool in question will perform a low-level erasure to repair damaged sectors. We can download it through the following link:
After having installed the tool, we will open the program and select the drive we want to format. Then we will go to the Low Level Format section. The interface that will appear will be similar to the one in the following image:
Finally, we will click on the Format this Devices button with the Perform quick wipe option unchecked to avoid future problems. This process can last between 10 and 15 minutes and under no circumstances can we remove the SD card from its tray.
Reset your mobile if none of the above works
If the micro SD card works normally on other devices and continues to generate some kind of error on Huawei phones, it is most likely due to an EMUI error. The only solution is to reset the phone completely.
This process is as simple as going to the Reset section in Settings and selecting the Reset phone option. Before proceeding, it is recommended to make a backup of all data, as it will be completely deleted after the deletion process.
