Mobile phones with 5G technology are here. It will be during the Mobile World Congress this February when the first phones with the aforementioned technology will begin to be presented. In this other article we already saw some of the main advantages of 5G. Meanwhile, many parts of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America still do not have 4G networks. This same situation, or even worse, is repeated with 5G. And is that currently no city on the Iberian Peninsula has 5G networks. Huawei and other companies assure that it will be from 2020 when we begin to see the first implementations of 5G in Spain. This forces us to wonder what presides over this entry. Is it worth buying a 5G mobile during this 2019? We see it below.
When will we see 5G in Spain?
Samsung, Huawei and even LG with the LG V50 5G will be the brands that will present a mobile with 5G during the MWC of 2019. They will do so through a special version that, unlike the standard models, will have the aforementioned technology and a predictably higher price. Manufacturers like Qualcomm also make their current high-end processors 5G compatible. At the forefront, we find ourselves with a bleak panorama regarding the implementation of 5G.

In Spain, the current coverage map is null. To this day, no city, town or industrial area has a 5G network. While it is true that companies such as Vodafone have begun to deploy the first 5G nodes in the main cities of the country (Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao…), the truth is that today there is no type of operational network. Along with Vodafone, Huawei is also joining the 5G network implementation process in the country. But, when will we really see the first 5G networks in Spain?
Both companies have ensured that it will be from 2020 when we can enjoy all the advantages of 5G. However, it is well known that these types of implementations tend to suffer portraits when expanding not only in the main cities of the country, but also in the rest of the municipalities. We already saw it with 4G and it would not be surprising if the 5G network followed the same steps.
So, is it worth buying a mobile with 5G today?
It depends. Is it worth paying an extra cost for a mobile with 5G? Absolutely not. In addition to the telephone on duty, the contracted telephone operator must provide support to the aforementioned network. At present, neither Vodafone nor any company offers data plans with 5G networks, and it is not expected until at least 2021.
Another aspect that we must take into account is that 5G to date is a characteristic of high-end phones. With the development of it over the months, it is expected that manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Honor or Huawei will launch cheaper models with 5G modems. This is the reason why currently paying a premium for a mobile with the aforementioned technology has no reason to be. The thing changes if the base model of the terminal in question has a 5G modem as standard.
The latest rumors assure that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be the first mobile sold internationally with 5G. Is it worth buying the mobile in this case? If it is not an extra cost compared to the base version of the Galaxy S10, then we cannot oppose your purchase. Of course, we must bear in mind that unless we travel to a country like China or South Korea, the network in Spain will not be operational for a few years.
