Honor has just launched its new flagships for this 2020. We are talking about the Honor 30, the Honor 30 Pro and the Honor 30 Pro Plus. The Trio Calaveras arrives as the perfect alternative to the P40 from its sister company. So much so that its terminals share most of the specifications, such as cameras, design or processor model. The price announced in China cuts Honor's bet by almost half.
Starting from this premise, the question becomes almost obligatory. Is it worth paying double for any of the Huawei P40 currently offered on the market?
Honor 30 vs Huawei P40: same features at a price twice lower
And it's no joke. Both the cheapest and the most expensive models cost literally half as much as their counterparts in China. To be fair, we are not in exactly the same terminals. The Honor 30, for example, has a more limited processor that doesn't even support 5G network technology.
To this must be added the obvious differences in the screens. Beyond the quality of the panels, the Honor 30 Pro + is the only model with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. As for the photographic section, the differences are somewhat less tangible. And is that even the cheapest model has a 3x telephoto sensor.
As if this were not enough, the Honor 30 Pro + inherits the main sensor from the P40 series. Likewise, its third sensor uses a 5x telephoto lens, the same amount of magnification as the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro. It is also worth mentioning the integration of a 40 W cable fast charging system, as well as a 27W wireless charging on Pro and Pro + models.
Beyond the technical differences between models, the reason for the new Honor flagships is found in the price. To date, the company has not confirmed the price list in Spain. If we take previous releases as a reference, we can deduce that the price increase in Europe will be around 100 euros.
Starting from this premise, the price list of the Honor 30, 30 Pro and 30 Pro Plus could be as follows:
- Honor 30 with 6 and 128 GB: about 490 euros (390 euros at the exchange rate in China).
- Honor 30 with 8 and 128 GB: about 520 euros (420 euros at the exchange rate in China).
- Honor 30 with 8 and 128 GB: about 550 euros (450 euros at the exchange rate in China).
- Honor 30 Pro with 8 and 128 GB: about 620 euros (520 euros at the change in China).
- Honor 30 Pro with 8 and 256 GB: about 660 euros (560 euros at the exchange rate in China).
- Honor 30 Pro + with 8 and 256 GB: about 750 euros (650 euros at the exchange rate in China).
- Honor 30 Pro + 12 and 256 GB: about 800 euros (700 euros at the exchange rate in China).
If we take a look at the Huawei models, the official price list is as follows:
- Huawei P40 8 and 128 GB: 800 euros
- Huawei P40 Pro 8 and 256 GB: 1,000 euros
- Huawei P40 Plus 12 and 512 GB: 1,400 euros
Comparing the most affordable Honor models, the difference is 310, 380 and 650 euros, values that are close to 50 percentage points of increase in the expected price of the company's terminals. Within this equation we must introduce the most controversial variable: the absence of Google services.
Is it worth paying that difference for terminals that share a good part of the characteristics of Honor phones and that lack Google's input applications? The answer is in the pocket of every reader. Taking into account the economic crisis that lies ahead, I would not dare to bet on a telephone that starts at a minimum of 800 euros in its most basic version.
