We were more or less clear that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge would be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. The latest version of Google's operating system. Not surprisingly, although we are facing Samsung's flagship for 2015, these two are still two powerful and prepared models. And there are still many users who have one in their pockets.
Now we have learned that the update to Android 7.0 Nougat has already been launched in some markets for the owners of this pair of models. In India, for example, a data packet weighing more than 1GB has been released, bringing with it the April security update.
This means that the update is now ready for the Samsugn Galaxy S6 and S6 edge from all over the world. In fact, it is expected that the data package can start rolling from the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you have either of these two teams, you should know that important news awaits you. And they are the following.
What's new in Android 7 for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge
Users upgrading to Android 7 can expect much of the general changes that Google has made for this edition.
- Quick exchange between applications. Now it is easier to switch from one application to another. If you are using an application and suddenly you want to open another that you were also using, all you have to do is tap the Recents button a couple of taps.
- Split screen. Another option is to work in split screen. A feature that now comes natively to users. We can run two applications at the same time and move the separation bar to adapt each of the windows to our needs.
- New notification system. Notifications have also changed. And a lot. From now on we will see a more minimalist bar, with different quick settings at the top. These notifications will be grouped together, so that everything will be much easier to manage.
- Quickly answers. Within the same notification system, we come across quick responses. In this way, it will not be necessary to access each application to respond to our contacts. You just have to click on Reply.
- Quick settings. With this update, users will also have access to a quick settings section. To begin with, we will see a small quick settings bar in the upper section of the notification bar. But this will not be all. By sliding down with your finger, we will see a system that has been rearranged and that we can modify according to our needs.
- Doze mode. And we finish with this mode, which turns out to be one of the best additions in this section. Although this energy saving system was already present in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Google has decided to improve it significantly. Thus, users can enjoy the deactivation of applications that are continuously synchronized with the system, but not only when the mobile is stopped. If your mobile phone or pocket has been off for a long time, Doze will also start working and will allow us to save energy at any time.
Samsung specific enhancements
There are, in addition, other important specific improvements that will only be present on Samsung devices. In this sense, it is expected that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge can enjoy the following:
- Improvements in accessing the different camera modes. Simply slide the screen to any of the four sides to activate them.
- New filters and special shooting modes for the camera.
- Different energy saving modes (low, medium, high), reducing the brightness of the screen to different degrees or limiting the use made of the processor (CPU).
- The S Finder and Quick Connect applications will be located in the main menu and integrated into the notification bar.
- New customization options (with clocks, colors and photos from the gallery) for the Always On Display system, which allows us to read notifications without unlocking the screen.
- Direct notifications from third-party applications (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram…).
