Officially, the South Korean firm Samsung announced a few days ago that the Samsung Galaxy S2 would be ready to be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - ICS - starting next January, although it did not specify what day the update process would begin. However, we also anticipate that the beta of the new version of the system adapted to the Samsung flagship was about to fall. And indeed, here we have it.
It was through the SamMobile site that we had access to the new ICS custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2. It is a version that, despite not being fully functional for now, serves to get an idea of what Android 4.0 looks like on the flagship phone of the Seoul-based firm. In any case, the appearance of this ROM in the Samsung Galaxy S2 is not the same as we have seen in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
And it is that as expected, Samsung would have once again installed its own layer of icons and floating windows - widgets - in the system. We are talking about TouchWiz, the UX - User eXperience , or home-native user experience, with which we can have several desktop screens with generously sized icons within reach.
There was talk of a possible reissue of TouchWiz that would customize the grid, so you can modify the size of icons. However, we still have no clues as to whether this dual edition will be available on ICS.
In case you are curious to see your Samsung Galaxy S2 dressed in the finery of Android 4.0, you can download the necessary files from this link, which you will have to use later through the ODIN desktop program - it is only available for Windows - and, only if you have the device previously rooted, proceed with the installation of this ROM.
Once again, we are obliged to remind you of the usual string in these cases: if you decide to proceed with the installation of this version of the system, make a backup copy of your contacts and files first, to be able to restore them in case there is some problem during the process. And as always, you must bear in mind that the task must be done at your own risk.
