The scams that surround the Android operating system are a major threat to users, but even more so are the security flaws that are periodically discovered on this platform. Stagefright was a major headache for the US company Google, as it was a security hole that allowed attackers to take control of the user's device. Now, the Xperia Z3 family has just been definitively protected against the Stagefright threat, and users only have to install an update on their devices to settle once and for all the controversy that this security flaw is dragging.
And, although Sony has already distributed an update aimed at solving the Stagefright security flaw, apparently not all the vulnerabilities of this threat were solved with the update. Now, with the version of 23.4.A.1.264, Sony ensures that the Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact have been shielded against the threat of Stagefright. The update is being distributed progressively around the world, and in a matter of days all the owners of any of these terminals should receive their respective update.
To install the 23.4.A.1.264 update on an Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact or Z3 Tablet Compact, the procedure to follow is as follows:
- First, we make sure that we have active WiFi connectivity, and then we enter the Settings application of our Xperia Z3.
- Next, we enter the " About the phone " section.
- Click on the option " Software update ".
- If the update that definitively solves the Stagefright security flaw is already available, our mobile will show us the steps to follow to download and install it; If it is not yet available, we will see the message " The device is up to date ", and we will have to repeat this procedure after a few days.
Of course, we are talking about an update that is limited to solving this security flaw, so we should not expect important news related to the operation or the mobile interface. In fact, after the 23.4.A.1.264 update, our Z3 family device will continue to run under Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version of the Android operating system.
When it comes to future Sony updates, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the most important of all that may arrive in the coming months. It is still in the testing phase, but the brand's flagships (the Sony Xperia Z5, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium) are scheduled to start updating to Android 6.0 during the first months of next year 2016.
