Out notch. Hello hole on screen
So is. The main and most notable novelty comes with the design, a design that mimics some of the lines seen in the Samsung Galaxy A this year. The notch, located in the middle of the upper frame, is shaped like an island on a 6.67-inch screen. The latter uses an IPS panel with Full HD + resolution and a 20: 9 ratio.
As for the construction materials, the two terminals have glass on the back and aluminum on the edges. Xiaomi has ensured that both have a coating made up of three layers of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, although unfortunately neither has IP68 protection, but P2i with splash resistance.
The fingerprint sensor, by the way, is located on one of the sides and will act as an unlock button. Also, the two versions exceed 200 grams in weight: 209 grams to be more exact. This is largely due to the battery module, a whopping 5,020 mAh. It is accompanied by a fast charging system of 18 W in the case of the Redmi Note 9 Pro and 33 W in the case of the Note 9 Pro Max.
Xiaomi returns to Qualcomm through the big door
Xiaomi's decision to integrate a Mediatek processor in the Redmi Note 8 Pro has brought the company upside down. Now he has been cured in health with a Qualcomm processor that is situated halfway between the Snapdragon 670 and the 730. We are talking about the Snapdragon 720G, a version supposedly intended for video game consumption.
If we talk about the memory configuration, the Redmi Note 9 Pro has two versions of 4 and 6 GB of RAM. As for the Max version, the phone uses 6 and 8 GB of RAM. Both have 64 and 128 GB of internal storage expandable up to 512 GB through micro SD cards. It is unknown if it is based on the UFS 2.0 or UFS 2.1 standard, although everything indicates that it will start from the latter.
The rest of the features are made up of the usual string of connections: Bluetooth 5.0, USB type C 2.0, dual-band WiFi… Unfortunately, neither version has NFC to make mobile payments wirelessly.
Four cameras with only one difference
As we had anticipated at the beginning of the article, the two terminals inherit the camera configuration of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. Both have four sensors. The difference between one and the other is found in the main sensor: while the Redmi Note 9 Pro has 48 megapixels, the Note 9 Pro Max has 64 megapixels.
The rest of the sensors come to use two cameras with wide-angle and telephoto lenses of 8 and 5 megapixels. The latter is intended to capture the background of photographs taken with the Portrait mode of the Xiaomi application. It is expected, therefore, that the results will be similar in the two terminals, beyond the photographs taken with the main sensor.
Moving to the front of the two devices, the differences are found again in the resolution of the main sensor. The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 16-megapixel module, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a 32-megapixel module.
