The battle to see the mobile with more megapixels would have only just begun. Although several manufacturers have launched 32 and 48 megapixel devices in recent months, they would not stop here. Judd Heape, executive director of product management at Qualcomm, recently assured that some companies in the sector are already working with sensor manufacturers to launch 64 and 100 megapixel smartphones later this year. The executive has not given any specific details, but did comment that many brands are expected to jump on the bandwagon to launch their bets.
Ultra-high-resolution cameras allow for more detailed daytime photography, but low-light shooting is often affected due to smaller pixel sizes. Fortunately, current 48 megapixel sensors offer pixel technology, combining the data from four small pixels into one. This allows for better performance in conditions where there is not enough light in the room. However, the combination of pixels results in lower resolution shots, with 48 MP cameras producing 12 MP snapshots, for example.
These new sensors are likely to offer the same technology as well, so we might see 16-megapixel images from a 64-megapixel camera. This leads us to ask ourselves the following question: Wouldn't it be more of a marketing strategy than another thing to promote a mobile with 100 megapixels? In this sense, when purchasing a mobile taking into account its photographic section, it is necessary to look at other details more important than megapixels as such, such as the aperture or the size of the pixels.
Think that the larger the aperture, the brighter the photos will be. Also, the larger the size of each pixel, the more light the sensor assembly will capture. In this sense, it is also essential to look at the quality of said sensor. An inexpensive one is not the same as the latest Sony IMX. The processor dedicated to the processing of the image and sound (DSP) is also essential here. And the better the SoC of your smartphone, the better the captures will be. However, we will be very aware of how the sector is progressing and of new information on this subject to give you all the data as appropriate.
