Apple opted for Face ID with the arrival of the iPhone X. It seems that the company wants to continue using this unlocking method as a substitute for Face ID, since this fingerprint scanner made iPhones have a large frame at the bottom. Despite the odd recognition problem that has arisen in recent months, Apple's Face ID works very well, but the company could change its strategy in the coming years. The Touch ID under the screen would reach the iPhone of 2021.
This is confirmed by Ming-Chi Kuo, a popular Apple product analyst, in a report published this morning on August 5. According to Kuo, the iPhone of 2021 will feature Touch ID technology under the screen. That is, the same as the fingerprint reader under the screen that we already know. In addition, it could also have Face ID under the screen. Which suggests that iPhones that are released in two years could count without any notch. It seems that Apple is currently working on this technology and on solving the different problems. The implementation of this sensor requires some difficulties in design, such as the thickness of the device, size of the panel etc. Both Touch ID and Face ID would be ready by 2020, allowing 2021 to be released with the iPhones of that year.
A different Touch ID
According to Kuo, Apple would be working on a variant of Qualcomm's on-screen fingerprint reader. This scanner allows the user to unlock the device by inserting the finger into a large space on the screen. In this way the user can unlock the device quickly, without having to search for the specific point of the scanner.
In Android, many of the manufacturers already have a fingerprint reader under the screen. Among them, Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, Oppo or Xiaomi. In addition, they also combine facial recognition.
