The success of Android splashes Microsoft. But it does it with drops of constant and sound dollars, which the Redmond company would be carrying for each mobile that is sold with the Google system. At least every phone that has the signature of the Taiwanese HTC.
In a report written by the analyst Walter Pritchard which is echoed in elmundo.es, it has been known that the company that Steve Ballmer governs could earn 150 million dollars a year (almost 105 million euros, at the current exchange rate) against to the s 30 million dollars (about 20.5 million euros) that would be supposed to the coffers the income for their mobiles with Windows Phone.
The basis of the trick is simple: the author of this analysis would have deduced the amount of money that Microsoft would earn for each HTC sold with Android and for each mobile with Windows Phone, for which it naturally charges a franchise. However, how much money does it take for each one? More importantly, why is Microsoft coming in from HTC's Android mobile sales?
The story is the following. HTC uses technology patented by Microsoft in the mobiles it sells with Android as the operating system. That is why last year they reached an agreement, according to which, five dollars (3.5 euros, at the exchange rate) of each terminal sold must go to the wealthy pocket of the Redmond giant.
From here, if it is estimated that HTC would sell about 30 million devices in the Android segment per year (which is the number of terminals that reach distributors), it is possible to deduce that Microsoft earns 150 million dollars as part of the signed agreement with the Taiwanese.
On the other hand, the earnings of Windows Phone are established from the latest data that was known about the distribution of phones among retailers, according to which, two million mobile phones were distributed (of which, however, would have been sold 1.6 million). In this case, the franchise that the North American manufacturer enters for the license is fifteen dollars (about 10.5 euros, to change), which brings us to the 30 million dollars passed on in this concept.
