The American company Apple has completely dispelled all the doubts that existed in relation to the possible applications of NFC connectivity that incorporate the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This same week, in a statement made officially by Apple, it was announced that application developers will not have access to the NFC technology of the new iPhone, which means that this wireless connectivity will only serve for the application of Apple Pay (focused on payments through mobile).
This statement sent to the technology magazine Cult of Mac is bad news for Apple users. NFC connectivity has many uses beyond electronic payments, and the fact that iOS operating system application developers cannot use it for their apps greatly limits the use of this connectivity in the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. If we take a look at Apple's competing manufacturers, we will see that companies such as Sony, for example, incorporate NFC connectivity into their Sony Xperia Z2 that allows one mobile to connect to another via Bluetooth. simply by bringing both terminals closer together for a few seconds.
But the true jug of cold water has been received by European users. It turns out that Apple Pay (the only application compatible with the NFC connectivity of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus) will only be available in the United States for a period of time to be specified, which means that European users will practically not be able to take no advantage of the NFC connectivity that the new iPhones incorporate. At the moment it is unknown if this measure will permanently affect the future of NFC in the new iPhone 6 or if, instead, Apple it will give in to user pressure over time.
As for Apple Pay, it should be noted that we are talking about an application that will allow payments to be made in physical stores through the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This means that, once we have associated the data of our credit / debit card with the Apple Pay application, we will simply have to bring the mobile closer to the payment terminals of the shops to pay for the purchase through the mobile. In order to make payments, we must first register our fingerprint, and each time we go to pay for a purchase we will have to place our finger on the Touch ID reader as if we were to unlock the screen.
Recall that the iPhone 6 will arrive in Spain on September 26 with a starting price of 700 euros for the simplest version (iPhone 6 with 16 GigaBytes of internal storage) and 1,000 euros for the most complete version (iPhone 6 Plus with 128 GigaBytes of internal storage).
