2018 is over, a year full of improvements and surprises when it comes to mobile photography. No longer only dual cameras have evolved, with more resolution and systems, thus improving quality. We begin to see devices with three or even four cameras that give us a glimpse of a new panorama in this sector. It is clear that most of today's manufacturers, who are vying for the throne to wear the crown, work hard to innovate in this regard. And they are getting it. Proof of this we have in these the following terminals, the 5 with the best main camera of the year that has just ended.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 landed on the market with a dual camera, which provides magnificent results, as we were able to verify in our tests. Both have a resolution of 12 megapixels, but they work differently to achieve good quality in the captures. The first sensor includes variable aperture f / 1.5-2.4, image stabilization and Dual Pixel focus. What do we achieve with this variable opening? Basically, this technology plays with the aperture depending on where we are, either in a scene with good light (f / 2.4) or in the dark (f / 1.5). In this way, we will always have a clear and bright photo with natural results.
The second sensor (telephoto) offers an aperture of f / 2.4. Of course, it must be taken into account that it is designed to be used in conditions in which the light is good. However, it will help us to make the popular bokeh or blur effect, with which we can give more prominence to an element of the image compared to the rest. Another of the great advantages of the main camera of the Note 9 is that it gives the possibility of recording in super slow motion with a speed of 30 fps or 60 fps. This means that movements up to 15 times slower than normal speed can be recorded. Likewise, the Note 9 camera manages to film these contents in HD quality, although we recommend that at the moment you are in a bright place.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
Another of the great terminals of this 2018 has been the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, a device that stands out for its photographic section thanks to its triple main camera. This model boasts of having three sensors (40, 20 and 8 megapixels) with luxury lenses. The composition is as follows:
- 40 megapixel sensor with wide-angle lens and f / 1.8 aperture
- 20 megapixel sensor with ultra wide angle lens and f / 2.2 aperture
- 8 megapixel sensor with telephoto lens and f / 2.4 aperture
Although the normal tendency is to make use of the 40 megapixel sensor and the wide angle lens, the 20 megapixel ultra wide angle lens will allow us to portray a large scene while being at a short distance from it. With the telephoto lens we will be able to capture images that are far from the main sensor. To do this, and to achieve more definition, we will take advantage of its optical image stabilizer and Artificial Intelligence.
The Mate 20 Pro also stands out for having a macro mode with which we can capture all kinds of details. Details that we have never been able to obtain before with a mobile camera, such as pores in the skin, the texture of jeans or the structure of a cat's whiskers.
Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
Although most manufacturers have been including dual cameras in their mid-range or high-end models, Sony was released this year. It has done so with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, a device that bets on a set very similar to that of some Huawei models. On the one hand, it includes an RGB sensor with 19 megapixels, 1.22 µm pixels and f / 1.8 aperture. On the other hand, we have a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor, with 1.55 µm pixels and f / 1.6 aperture.
The two sensors process the captures in real time thanks to the AUBE image processor. They are capable of achieving images with a great level of detail and sharpness. To give you an idea, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium can achieve an ISO of 51,200 in photos or 12,800 in videos at most, quite high values for a mobile device. To all this we must add that, according to the manufacturer, it does so without noise.
In addition to enjoying photos with a bokeh effect, video is another of the most outstanding features in the photographic section of this equipment. The Xperia XZ2 Premium is capable of recording video with 4K resolution and HDR. Also, you can record at 960 fps with FHD resolution.
Lenovo Z5 Pro
The sample images taken with the Lenovo Z5 Pro leave no doubt that this model manages to take photos with very good quality. The device includes a dual main sensor with a resolution of 16 and 24 megapixels and an aperture f / 1.8. This dual camera will allow us to get photos with blur and zoom effect without losing quality. The good news is that the company has added artificial intelligence for night captures in images and videos, which offers more light in dark situations.
Samsung Galaxy A9
This article could not miss the Samsung Galaxy A9, the first mobile on the market to include four sensors on its back. Of course, not all lenses have the same functions, which makes it very versatile in the photographic section. On the one hand we have the usual set with double sensor that we all already know. Or what is the same, a main sensor accompanied by a depth sensor capable of performing the popular bokeh effect. In the Galaxy A9 , a 24-megapixel sensor with f / 1.7 aperture and a 5-megapixel sensor with f / 2.2 aperture take care of this. The latter is the achieves the dynamic focus or portrait mode.
The other two sensors work so that we can carry out another type of photography. They are independent of the other two, which means that we will have to select them in the camera application to be able to use them. In this case, we have a telephoto lens with 10 megapixels of resolution and f / 2.4 aperture, which allows us to have a 2x optical zoom. In addition, an ultra-wide-angle sensor with 8 megapixels of resolution and f / 2.4 aperture has also been included. The latter helps us to take pictures with an angle of 120 degrees.
