We are at the Mobile World Congress and we have already seen practically all the presentations of the different telephone brands. This year the trend followed by manufacturers is to present folding mobiles with flexible screens. Specifically, there are four brands that have presented this type of mobile: Samsung, Huawei, Alcatel and Energizer. While the first three have serious aspirations to reach the market during this 2019, the last one is nothing more than a pilot model that most likely will not see the light of day.
Huawei Mate X, the king of folding phones
If there is an undisputed winner of this Mobile World Congress that is the Huawei Mate X. We have had the opportunity to see it live and the terminal has the best design of the four phones presented, with a single screen that folds over itself to accommodate up to three 8, 6.6 and 6.38-inch screen formats with a total Quad HD resolution of 2480 x 1148 pixels.
Regarding its technical characteristics, we find a Kirin 980 processor, a Balong 5000 5G modem, 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. In addition, it has a 4,500 battery with the fastest charge seen in a mobile to date of 55W.
It also integrates three cameras that, in the absence of official confirmation, are expected to be the same as those of the Mate 20 Pro. Three RGB sensors, wide angle and telephoto lens of 40, 20 and 8 megapixels with focal apertures f / 1.8, f / 2.2 and f /2.4. The price will start from 2,299 euros.
Samsung Galaxy Fold: two screens and six cameras to dominate them all
The Samsung Galaxy Fold could not be missing. The terminal of the South Korean brand has opted for two screens, one folding and the other static that act as a smartphone. The first is composed of a 7.3-inch panel with AMOLED technology and Quad HD resolution (1536 x 2152). Regarding the secondary screen, it has 4.6 inches and 840 x 1960 resolution .
For the rest, Samsung's flexible mobile integrates an Exynos 9820 processor with a 5G modem. This is accompanied by 12 GB of RAM, 512 GB of internal storage and a 4,380 mAh battery. In the photographic section we find twice the number of cameras than Huawei's flexible mobile.
Three cameras of 12, 12 and 16 megapixels with RGB, telephoto and ultra wide angle lenses and apertures f / 1.5 and f / 2.4 for the main one, f / 2.4 for the secondary and f / 2.2 for the tertiary is what we find in the part rear. The front ones, on the other hand, are based on two sensors of 10 and 8 megapixels with focal aperture f / 2.2 and f / 1.9 on the flexible screen and one of 10 megapixels for the static screen with identical specifications to the tablet format. Its price? About 2,100 euros.
Energizer Power Max P8100S, the surprise of the Mobile World Congress with two versions
The historic battery brand has also presented its folding phone model, or rather, its models. The company assures that there will be two versions of it, an inexpensive one with a Mediatek processor and another somewhat more expensive with a Qualcomm CPU. The design in this case repeats the lines of Samsung's flexible mobile, although with a somewhat better used surface.
Regarding its technical specifications, it will come with two 8.1 and 6-inch screens with Full HD + resolution. The first will make up the flexible part of the device. The second, obviously, will include the outside of the phone and therefore, the mobile part.
The rest of the characteristics will be defined by a Mediatek P70 or Snapdragon 855 processor, depending on the version. In addition, it will have 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage expandable through micro SD cards. The photographic section is not far behind either, as we find three 48 and 12 megapixel cameras on the back and 24 megapixels on the front of the device.
As if this were not enough, it will integrate a 10,000 mAh battery with fast charging via USB type C. The price in this case will be 899 and 1,599 euros for the two processor versions.
Alcatel (TLC), without folding mobile but with interesting concepts
Alcatel, or rather, TLC, is the only one of the four companies that has not presented a phone itself, but several pilot models that will arrive, according to the company, from the year 2020. Little or nothing we know about these beyond that they will have a single 7.2-inch AMOLED panel with Quad HD + resolution and up to 90% frontal use.
The good thing is that we can fold it in the direction we want, unlike the Energizer or Samsung mobile. It will be necessary to see how it ends up being implemented in the final models.
