Use the mobile as a remote control control the TV
Did you know that you can use your phone as a remote control to control certain electronic devices? Televisions, air conditioners, music players, radios… Thanks to the infrared sensor that is located on the top of the device, we can replace the functions of any remote control. To do this, we will have to go to the application of My Remote or My Remote that is in the Tools folder. Within this application we will have to select the type of device, the brand and the region.
Finally, the assistant will ask us to press the different buttons on the interface to control the device in question. After synchronizing the device, we can interact with it through the mobile as long as we are at a relatively short distance.
Duplicate the mobile screen on the TV
Another curious function that MIUI 11 has managed to simplify is to connect our mobile phone to a smart TV wirelessly. This function is called Screen Mirroring and is currently present in most models on the market.
Once we have verified that our television has the aforementioned function, we will go to the Settings application on our mobile, specifically to the Connection and sharing section. Within this section we will go to the Issue option. The assistant will automatically start searching for televisions connected to the same WiFi network as the terminal.
When MIUI manages to recognize the TV, the mobile screen will go directly to the TV, not without a slight delay in the signal.
Protect application access with password
A function that is not typical of the Redmi Note 9S, but of MIUI 11. Thanks to this, we can protect any application with a password, fingerprint or face that we have registered through the phone's facial unlocking system.
The way to proceed is as simple as going to the Applications section within the Settings application. Then we will go to the Application Lock option. Now we will be shown a whole list with the applications that we have installed in the terminal.
After selecting the list of applications that we want to protect, we will select a blocking method among the three available: pattern, face unlock or fingerprint.
Reduce the screen size to control the mobile with one hand
It is a fact, the screen of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S is huge. Fortunately, MIUI allows us to reduce its virtual size through a function called One-Handed Mode. Within the Additional Settings section in Settings we will go to the One-Handed Mode option. Next, the assistant will show us three types of screen, a 3.5-inch, a 4-inch and a 4.5-inch last.
After selecting one of the available screen sizes, we will activate the function in the corresponding tab and slide our finger from the central part of the screen to the far left or right at the bottom of the panel. The size will automatically be reduced to the indicated diagonal.
Unfortunately this function is not compatible with MIUI gestures. For it to be activated correctly we will have to activate the native Android on-screen buttons.
Duplicate WhatsApp, Faceb0ok and other applications to have multiple accounts
Until a few years ago, mirroring applications was something that required root or third-party applications. With MIUI's Dual Apps feature we can achieve this relatively easily. How?
Within the Applications section in Settings we will go to the Dual Applications option. Next, a list of applications will be displayed whose stay we can duplicate to have two or more user accounts. Applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… After selecting the applications that we want to duplicate, the system will generate two instances on the MIUI Desktop.
Use songs as ringtones
The ringtones of the Redmi Note 9S are not especially pleasant? . If we opt for a custom song or ringtone, MIUI offers the possibility of using files stored in the phone's memory as notification tones.
In this case we will have to refer to the Sounds and vibration section within the Settings application. Next we will go to the option of Phone ringtone if we want to change the ringtone of calls or even Default notification sound if we want to change the tone of system notifications. If we want to select a song stored in the memory of the Redmi Note 9S we will have to choose the options of Choose a local ringtone and File manager.
Install Google Camera to take better photos
As of today there is no official version of the Google Camera application for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S. Not in vain, we can test some versions designed for other models of the Chinese firm. This time we have compiled two of the latest versions developed by Arnova, one of the best-known developers on the current scene.
The installation process is simple, as long as we check the box for Installing applications from unknown sources in Settings / Security. As for the advantages of the GCam application over the native MIUI application, we find the presence of the Portrait mode of the Google Pixel, as well as the Night mode and Astrophotography mode to capture images of the stars in the open sky. And of course, the image processing carried out by Google.
Activate the hidden options of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S
Thanks to a third-party application we can activate a series of hidden MIUI functions that allow us to perform different tasks. Connect to a private DNS, test the device's hardware to detect possible errors, optimize battery use, view the notification history… In this case we will use the Hidden Settings for MIUI application, which we can download from the Play Store by pressing in the link.
To access the different hidden MIUI settings we will have to access the application, from which we can play with the functions that the system presents us.
Unlock the phone by double tapping on the screen
A function that allows us to see the notifications on the lock screen at a glance is to unlock the screen with a double tap. By default, this option is disabled by default. To activate it, we will have to go to the Lock screen section within the Settings application, more specifically to the Double tap option on the screen to wake up.
Along with this last option we find another function called Activate Lock screen for notifications. Its behavior is very similar to the traditional Always on Display system that wakes up the screen with each incoming notification.
Improve gaming performance on Redmi Note 9S
Probably one of the most interesting news of MIUI 11 is the inclusion of Game Turbo, a system that allows us to improve the performance of the games installed on the device. This system focuses all the attention of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S hardware on the execution of the games, limiting background processes and raising the processor frequencies to the maximum.
To access this function we will have to go to the Special functions section in Settings or to the Game Accelerator application that we can find in the Tools folder. Next, the application will show us a list of all the games installed on the device. It will be enough to start any title from the mentioned tool.
Improve the performance of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S by speeding up its animations
A trick present in Android since the first versions of the system. To do this, we will have to previously activate the so-called Development Settings. In MIUI this process is as simple as going to the Settings application, specifically to the About the phone section. Within this section we will find an option with the name of MIUI Version, which we will have to press up to seven times.
MIUI will automatically unlock the Development Settings, which we can access through the Additional Settings section. Now we will only have to scroll through the application until we find the following options:
- Window animation level
- Animation level of transitions
- Animation duration level
To speed up the animations of the Note 9S we recommend setting the figure at.5x in each of the options. Another option is to completely disable the animations, although we will lose part of the charm of MIUI.
Add shortcuts to the Redmi Note 9S buttons
The latest trick of the Redmi Note 9S comes with a function that allows us to assign functions to the physical buttons of the phone. Actions such as turning on the flashlight, opening the Camera application, opening the split screen, starting the Google assistant or taking a screenshot, among others. We can find this function in Additional Settings within Settings, more specifically in the button Shortcuts option.
Then, the interface will show us a series of options and functions that we can assign to the different buttons of the terminal. The possibilities are endless.
