The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has been one of the best-selling mid-range phones of 2019 along with the Huawei P30 Lite. From the latter we already collected a series of tricks just a few days ago in an article dedicated to the star terminal of the Chinese firm. Now it is the turn of the Lite version of the Mate 20 series. Unlike the P30 Lite, terminal launched in August 2018 will not enjoy EMUI 10 with Android 10, but will stay in EMUI 9 (9.1 to be more exact) next to Android 9 Pie. Do you want to get the most out of your device this 2020? Take a look at the best Huawei Mate 20 Lite tricks.

Save battery by changing the screen resolution
The jump from HD resolution to Full HD makes the panel of the Mate 20 consume considerably more power than its predecessors. The good news is that Huawei allows you to change the virtual resolution of the screen through the EMUI Settings to reduce the energy consumption of the screen. How?
Within Settings, and more specifically in the Screen section, we will click on Screen Resolution and then on HD Resolution (1,560 x 720), but not before deactivating the Smart Resolution option. Automatically all the content displayed on the screen will be broadcast in 720p. Videos, games, images…
Record the screen of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite without applications
One of the most relevant novelties of EMUI 9 has to do precisely with the possibility of recording the screen without downloading external applications. The option in question can be found in the EMUI notification bar, as we can see in the image below.
After clicking on the Recording icon, the system will begin to record everything that appears on the screen with the resolution that we have previously defined. Also the audio picked up through the phone's microphone.
Hide videos, images and files on the Mate 20 Lite
Another quite useful option that the Huawei Mate 20 Lite includes as standard is a Safe, a function that allows us to select everything that we do not want to be shown in the rest of applications (WhatsApp, Gallery, File Explorer…) to hide it later.
This function can be found in Security and privacy. It will be enough to create a personalized password and select all those elements that we want to hide from the rest of the applications installed on Android. They can be images, videos, sound files, documents and any element present in the memory of the device. To access the hidden files again, yes, we will have to make use of the aforementioned Safe function.
Personalize the Huawei Mate 20 Lite with third-party themes
Did you know that you can install third-party themes on your Mate 20 Lite to customize the phone to your liking? Thanks to these we can even change the appearance of the icons, the system colors or the Android typography.
To download these themes, it is best to use the Themes for Huawei application that we can find in the Google Play Store. We can also install the themes directly from the aforementioned store.
When we have downloaded the application we will only have to select some of the themes available in the store. To apply the theme in question we will have to go to the Themes section that we can find in Settings. Take a look at this collection of forty Huawei themes and wallpapers to customize your mobile to your liking.
Add an app drawer in the Huawei launcher
If something characterizes EMUI, it is that it does not include an application drawer by default in its launcher. For this purpose we will have to resort to external applications, as is the case with Nova Launcher… That's how it was until now.
To add an application drawer with all the applications installed on the device we will have to go to the Main screen style section within the Screen section in Settings. Within this option we can choose between two types of distribution: the traditional EMUI distribution without an application drawer and the natural Android distribution with a drawer. If we choose the latter, we can organize the applications according to different criteria: alphabetically, installation date, frequency of use…
Remove the operator's name in the notification bar
EMUI natively shows the name of the SIM card operator at one end of the notification bar. Orange, Vodafone, Movistar, Yoigo, Tuenti, Amena… The good news is that we can hide the name in question through the System Settings.
To do this, just go to the Screen section in the Settings application. In More screen settings we will click on the option Hide the operator's name and activate the corresponding tab to make the operator's name disappear.
Activate notifications on the lock screen on the Huawei Mate 20 Lite
Although Huawei's mid-range does not have Always On Display, the function that turns on the screen constantly to view incoming notifications, it does have an option that allows the screen to be activated with the receipt of notifications, which translates where we can see their content on the lock screen.
To do this we will have to refer to the Notifications section within Settings and immediately afterwards to More notification settings. Of all the options, the one that interests us is that of Notifications activate the screen, an option that we will have to activate to achieve our mission.
Reduce the size of the virtual screen
We are not going to deny it: the screen of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite is not for all audiences and hands. Fortunately, Huawei has integrated a very useful function that allows us to reduce the size of the screen in a virtual way to reach all the ends of the screen with one hand.
As a general rule, this function is activated as standard in most Huawei phones. With the Android virtual bar active, we will make a sliding gesture from the lower left or right corner to the center of the screen, forming a diagonal.
Depending on the side where we have executed the gesture, the screen will shrink to the left or right. Unfortunately, this function is not compatible with EMUI gestures, so we will have to resort to the traditional Android bar with Home, Back and Recent Applications buttons.
Improve Mate 20 Lite performance by speeding up animations
Probably one of the most traditional tricks on Android. A good way to improve the performance of the phone is precisely to speed up system animations. With this, we will achieve better performance when opening applications, switching to multitasking or interacting with the different application menus.
Before proceeding with the adjustment, we will have to activate the Development Settings, which we can access by referring to the System section in Settings. Then we will go to the About phone section and finally press a total of seven times on Compilation number. Now we just have to go back to System and access the aforementioned configuration.
Within this configuration we will have to find the following settings:
- Animation transition scale
- Window animation scale
- Animator duration scale
If we want to speed up the Huawei Mate 20 Lite we will have to set the figure at 0.5. We can also choose 0.0 to deactivate the animations completely, although it is not the most recommended if we want to maintain a fluency curve on the phone.
Lock access to applications with a password
The latest Huawei Mate 20 Lite trick that deserves special mention is a security option that allows us to protect applications with a password, a password that can be based on a fingerprint, on the face (through facial recognition) or in a simple unlock pattern.
The process is as simple as heading to Settings; specifically to Security and privacy. Within this section we will click on Application blocking and we will select all those applications that we want to block. After which, EMUI will ask us to register a password or pattern and the unlocking method that we have previously registered (fingerprint, facial recognition…).
Take a screenshot of the screen by sliding three fingers
Taking screenshots on Huawei is as simple as pressing the Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time. With EMUI we will only have to perform a sliding gesture with three fingers from the central part of the screen down.
Within Settings, specifically in the section on Control movements in Intelligent Assistance, we will activate the option Capture against fingers to proceed with the aforementioned function. If we keep three fingers on the screen we can even make a sliding capture, that is, of the entire web page application.
