Have you already updated your Xiaomi mobile to the expected MIUI 11? It has been a long wait for many users who were counting the days to know the news that the new version of the Xiaomi customization layer brings.
However, along with the news came some problems that make it difficult to interact with the device. Some are simply configuration options and others are bugs that are expected to be fixed with an upcoming update.
But while that happens, you can take a look at the possible solutions to the MIUI 11 problems reported so far by users on different forums.
Notification icons are hidden in the status bar
Some users report that app icons are automatically hidden in the status bar. That is, if you receive a message on Telegram you will see that the icon appears when you receive it, but then it disappears.
This is a big problem since if we usually take a look to see if we have pending notifications we will find zero notifications. For this there are two possibilities: it is a configuration option that we have to review, or it is the typical failure of lost notifications in Xiaomi with notch, inherited from MIUI 10
Let's start with the settings. If you want the notification icons to remain fixed in the status bar, you have to activate this option. To do this, go to Display> Notch and status bar >> Status bar >> show icons of incoming notifications.
If even configuring this option properly, notifications continue to disappear, then it is a bug that we hope will be solved shortly. Meanwhile, try installing Notch Notification for MIUI that allows you to have fixed notifications in the status bar and adds a plus with some customization options.
The proximity sensor does not work
Some mention that after MIUI 11 update the proximity sensor no longer works properly. In some cases, the screen does not turn off during calls, and in others, the problem is when listening to WhatsApp audios.
Let's go through the setup first to make sure everything is in order. Let's go to Settings >> Applications >> System application settings >> Call settings >> Incoming call settings and activate proximity sensor.
To check that the sensor works correctly, you can carry out the test by dialing the code * # * # 64663 # * # * from the Telephone application. It will automatically direct you to the hidden section for hardware testing, open “Proximity Sensor Test” and you will see that it marks 5.
To test its operation you just have to bring the palm of your hand to the sensor and you will see that it changes to 0. You choose “Calibrate” and that's it. The drawback with this (in those who have this problem) is that every time they turn off the mobile, the sensor is deactivated and they have to do the whole process again.
Status bar is not customized when applying a theme
Some users have reported that they cannot get the status bar to take the characteristics of the theme that apply to their mobile device.
That is, all device sections show the characteristics of the chosen theme, but the status bar remains the default. This is a very specific issue that seemed to affect Pocophone F1 owners. However, other Xiaomi models seem to experience the same drawback.
A possible explanation for this is that the chosen themes are not compatible for MIUI 11. Or at least some of its options. We will have to wait if an update fixes this or if new themes are available that address this lack.
A possible solution is to filter the search with "MIUI 11" since themes with this tag should work without problems.
Alarm clock does not appear on screen when activated
If the alarm that you have configured on your mobile sounds but you do not see it appear on the screen, it is not that you are asleep. It is due to an adjustment in the configuration that forces you to unlock the mobile to turn it off or postpone it.
Although many users thought that it was due to some failure of MIUI 11, it is only a conflict in the configuration to have the "Do not disturb" mode activated. Once you deactivate it, the clock will appear on the screen as usual.
It consumes a lot of battery
This seems to be the most popular problem that the MIUI 11 update has brought. One of the causes of this excessive battery consumption is that all the options seem to be activated by default, so take a look at your mobile settings to adjust some details.
For example, one of the options to review is Automatic Start, which allows certain applications to start automatically with your device and remain in the background. Having all installed apps configured in this way can affect battery performance.
To change this go to Settings >> Applications >> Manage applications >> Permissions >> Automatic start.
You will see a list of all installed applications so that you approve those that you want to start automatically. You may only want to have messaging, email or similar apps enabled.
And if with that change you do not notice that the battery performance improves, then try to track the activity of the mobile. To do this, go to Settings >> Battery and performance >> Battery usage statistics. This section will offer you data on battery consumption with percentages that determine which functions or applications use the most resources.
The AI button does not work
This is a recurring topic on the MI 9T user forums. After MIUI 11 update, the button to use the Google Assistant does not work or the settings are activated without user interaction.
The first attempt to solve this problem is to go to the configuration and review the settings to see if we have the option correctly configured. To do this, you just have to go to Settings and look for Additional Settings >> Quick access to buttons and gestures >> IA button.
If the settings are correct and you still have problems, then the only solution at the moment is to disable the functions configured for the IA button. In that way, you will avoid headaches by activating the functions alone, while you wait for an update to solve the problem.
The lock screen does not turn on when notifications arrive
This seems to be just a configuration problem. The update may have changed the settings for the content to be displayed on the lock screen.
To solve this it is only necessary to go to Settings << Applications >> Permissions >> Other permissions >> Show on the lock screen. We will see a list of the apps installed on the device, we just have to indicate which ones will have permission to show content when the screen is locked.
And another option that you must make sure you have configured is in Settings >> Lock screen >> Activate lock screen for notifications.
A very curious little trick that works temporarily (as long as we do not turn off the mobile) is to configure the automatic brightness, restart the mobile and adjust the brightness manually.
Keyboard lag
Many users expected that the arrival of MIUI 11 will fix the keyboard lag problem. Some noticed a difference and others still notice lag in touch response at the edges of the screen, making fast typing difficult.
This is a problem that many had already reported on the Redmi Note 7. As long as Xiaomi does not release an update that solves this failure there is no definitive solution, but there is a little trick that you can apply.
Just install the Swiftkey keyboard and resize the keyboard to avoid the edges. To do this, you just have to go to the keyboard settings and select the option "Adjust size" to give the dimensions you want.
Flashlight turns on with incoming calls
If after updating MIIU 11 you noticed that every time you receive calls the flash turns on, or the flashlight as mentioned in the forums, don't worry, you can easily solve it from the settings.
It is not an update failure, it is only an option in the configuration of incoming calls that for some users has been enabled by default. To change this you have to go to Settings >> System >> Applications >> Call settings >> Incoming calls.
You just have to disable the option "Flash when receiving the call" and that's it.
Not all the functions of the MIUI 11 appear
This is not a problem with the mobile device, nor with MIUI 11. While Xiaomi has promoted all the features that MIUI 11 brings, this does not mean that they will apply to all devices equally.
For example, Redmi Note 7 users will not be able to count on “Ambient on Display” as it is a function for devices with AMOLED screens. On the other hand, some options, such as the step counter, are not enabled for all regions, so it will depend on your location to have them available on your Xiaomi device.
So if you don't see a certain MIUI 11 function on your mobile, don't worry, it may correspond to one of these limitations. And in other cases it is possible that they will arrive over time, in future updates.
As you will see, many of the reported problems have to do with the configuration. Apparently with the MIUI 11 update some options changed sections. And of course, many of the options that we had customized went to a default configuration. This caused the mobile to present a "strange" dynamic for its owners.
But it's just a matter of taking a look at the settings and familiarizing yourself with all its options. And the rest of the bugs have no solution at the moment, so we will have to wait for future updates.
