Huawei's new customization layer is packed with new features. EMUI 10.1 was announced along with the P40 and P40 Pro, and little by little this version is reaching other devices of the firm, even those that have Google services. In this article you will find the best tricks for EMUI 10.1 to get the most out of your Huawei mobile.
How to record screen in EMUI 10.1
A simple trick to record screen in EMUI 10.1. Simply slide the notification panel and tap on the option that says 'Screen recording'. If it does not appear, you can click on the edit shortcut icon and drag the icon to the upper area. Once we have started recording the screen, a small icon will appear in the upper area. There we can stop the recording. The video capture will be saved in the gallery.
Change the clock style on the Always-on screen
EMUI 10.1 allows the Always-on or 'Always-on' screen to be applied to some models. For example, in the Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 and other models. The Always-on screen is not activated by default, it must be previously configured through the system settings. In these settings we can also change the style of the watch to give it a different aesthetic. We can even add drawings. To do this, we go to Settings> Main screen and wallpaper> Always show on screen. In addition to activating the option we can adjust the 'Clock style. Select the theme you prefer.
Activate emergency options
Without a doubt, a very interesting option that you must activate yes or yes. We always carry our mobile with us, for everything. Even when we do sports or go hiking. During some activity there may be some kind of accident, and we can call the emergency services or an assigned contact quickly if we activate this option on our Huawei mobile.
To do this, go to Settings> Security> SOS Emergency. Activate the option 'Automatic SOS call' and select the contact. To activate the SOS mode we just have to press the on and off button for 5 times in a row.
The downside of this is that the terminal sends an automatic message to the contact, and it is not in Spanish.
Multiple windows with EMUI 10.1
Multiple windows are available on any Huawei model that has EMUI 10.1, regardless of whether it has a curved screen or not.
An exclusive feature of EMUI 10.1: we can activate side multitasking and access applications quickly. These apps will be applied to the floating window display. That is, they will not occupy the entire screen and we can continue to see the other applications that we had open without having to close them.
This option is activated in Settings> Accessibility features> Multiple windows. To make the bar with the applications appear we have to slide from the bottom frame. We can add new apps or delete those that we are not going to use.
How to use Celia, Huawei's virtual assistant
Celia, Huawei's assistant, is now available in Spanish on phones with EMUI 10.1.
Huawei mobiles that have Google services (Huawei P30 Pro, P30, P30 Lite, P20, Mate 20…), can use Google Assistant, but for all those that do not include the apps of the big G, Huawei has opted for add an assistant of your own: Celia (pronounced 'Silia'). This Assistant, which will also coexist with Google on some terminals, allows us to perform quick commands: to open applications, set schedules, see the time, etc.
Its use is very simple: we just have to press and hold the power button and the assistant will appear. We can adjust the voice command or change the language. In the Huawei P40 Pro it can be used in Spanish, but in the Huawei P40 it does not let me configure it in my language. After the initial configuration we will be able to carry out the different commands. At the moment, they are quite simple: ask about the weather, add a reminder, open an app, etc.
Activate this option if you are going to use gloves
A very interesting option, especially now that many of us prefer to wear gloves to prevent infections. In EMUI 10.1 we find a 'glove mode' that allows us to have a better interaction on the screen when we wear gloves: whether they are the ones we use in winter or the ones we wear to go outside. To activate the option you just have to go to ' Settings> Accessibility functions> Gloves mode. Activate the option and put on your gloves to navigate the system and use your Huawei mobile. As simple as that.
How to use the 'one hand' mode
One-handed mode: perfect for Huawei phones with a large screen.
A very useful trick if your mobile has a large screen. In EMUI 10.1 we can activate the 'one hand' mode. This mode changes the dimensions of the interface and adjusts them so that we can use it with one hand. To activate the option we have to go to Settings> Accessibility features> One-handed mode. Activate the mode from the option that appears at the bottom.
To use it, slide from one corner to the other edge. You will see that the interface adapts to a more compact size. The truth is that it works very well: it adapts to the resolution and we can even use navigation gestures.
How to Quickly Share Images or Files with Other Huawei Devices
If you have a Huawei laptop or tablet, or a family member / friend of yours has a terminal of the same brand, you can use this trick to share images or files quickly. It is Huawei Share cake, which is updated in EMUI 10.1. We can share files without losing quality and they are transferred in seconds.
Huawei Share allows you to share images or other files quickly.
To use Huawei Share, select the images or file you want to send. Then click on the share button . Huawei Share will appear in the upper area: other Huawei phones or devices must have the option activated in the notification panel. When the terminal detects a nearby device, click on the name and the file will be sent instantly. You can also use Huawei Share to quickly print documents from your mobile. Of course, the printer has to meet some requirements, such as having WiFi.
How to update applications from the AppGallery
Normally the updates to the AppGallery are done automatically, but it is likely that you want to update an app that the system has not started yet. Where is the updates option in the App Gallery? We just have to enter the app, go to the 'Management' tab and click where it says 'Updates'. Then select the app you want to update. As simple as that.
Lock apps with your fingerprint or your face
If you leave your mobile to the smallest of the house, or you have personal applications, you can block them with your fingerprint or your face. In this way, only you can enter the app. To activate this function go to Settings> Security> App lock. Confirm a PIN and password, and then select how you want to unlock the app. Next, choose the applications in which you want to have your face or fingerprint registered.
From now on, when you enter, it will ask you for one of the blocking methods available in your terminal. If it does not recognize your face or face you can always include the PIN code.
