- The summary of Huawei updates
With each passing day, Android 8 Oreo has more and more presence in the mobile industry. The devices announced by various companies that will include this operating system as standard are more and more. However, and as is to be expected, the brands also prepare this latest version of Android for the terminals that are already on the market. Companies like Samsung are expected to implement Android 8 in much of their current portfolio. And among these companies is our protagonist: Huawei.
The Chinese brand, through the Weibo account of Bruce Lee, current vice president of Huawei Consumer Business Group, unveiled a small list a few days ago. In this list appeared the next terminals for which the update to Android 8 Oreo is confirmed. That the current list is confirmed from Huawei does not imply that the terminals that appear in it are the only ones to which the new version of the green robot will arrive. In fact, there are several speculations about an increase in this list in the future.
Huawei Mate 8
We begin the review by the list of devices confirmed with Huawei's Mate range. The Mate 8 is the oldest model that will have a confirmed update to Android Oreo within its range. It is not for less, since, despite being a phone from two years ago, its power places it at the level of current terminals. Although this update has not yet materialized, the rate of updates of the other models of the Chinese brand suggest that the Mate 8 could receive the update to Android 8 in the coming months. However, we repeat that this last data is not confirmed.
Huawei Mate 9
The next terminal in this review is not on Mr. Bruce Lee's list. However, we add it because, like several of the following models, it already has Android 8 Oreo. We are talking about the Huawei Mate 9. The company launched the first stable version of Android 8 for this terminal at the beginning of December 2017, accompanied by EMUI 8. Luckily for all users of any version of the Mate 9, the model update affects all its variants. Therefore, the Mate 9 Porsche Edition and Mate 9 Pro also enjoy the latest version of the operating system.
Huawei Mate 10
To finish with the Mate, there is nothing better than talking about the flagship of this range. The Huawei Mate 10 is a special case compared to its little brothers. And we say this because the Mate 10 has been one of the first terminals to appear for sale with Android 8 as standard. Therefore, if you have a Mate 10, Mate 10 Porsche Edition or Mate 10 Pro, you should not worry about the update at all. However, Huawei Mate 10 Lite users are not facing the same fate for now. Huawei has not yet confirmed the update for this terminal, which was released with Android Nougat. Even so, there are few rumors about a possible update.
Huawei P8 Lite 2017
We change the range and go to the Huawei P, more specifically the P8 Lite 2017. There are many rumors that circulate about the possible update of this terminal to Android 8. And the Chinese company assures the buyers of their mobiles at least two years of updates. That is why, although there are currently no confirmations of this information, a next update of the terminal is expected in the coming months. However, the other versions of the Huawei P8 will not suffer the same fate, since its update seems to be too far from reality.
Huawei P9
We return to a model belonging to the list that we mentioned at the beginning. Both the Huawei P9 and the P9 Lite have not yet received an update to the latest version of Android. Even so, being part of the list, the update could be confirmed for both terminals. For users of either of these two phones it will be a matter of time to get Android 8 Oreo. The only thing left is to wait for the Chinese brand to officially launch the update, which should happen during the next few months.
Huawei P10
To conclude the range, the last Huawei P to receive the update to Android 8 Oreo is the Huawei P10. In fact, the terminal, unlike its peers in the range, already has a stable update to the latest version of the Google system. In this case, all versions of the 'standard' P10 and P10 Plus are updated to Android 8. This is not the case with the Huawei P10 Lite, which is expected to update in the coming months. However, this update has not been confirmed by Huawei. This could lead to a long-term update confirmation, with consequent postponement of the update.
Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus
As the latest terminals with the possibility of updating to Android 8 Oreo, we find the Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. These two terminals, exclusive to China, also appeared on Bruce Lee's list. This means that they would be the last terminals to date that would have a confirmed update to the latest version of Android. However, and unfortunately for all European users, we will not be able to get this terminal through any official seller. Even so, the terminal can be obtained through export companies of exclusive products for China.
As for the update of both terminals, dates are not yet known. However, and like the rest of the terminals on the aforementioned list, Android 8 is expected to appear for these models in the coming months.
