The samsung galaxy s8 is here, do you remember what the galaxy s was like?
Table of contents:
March 29 is just around the corner, the day to see the new Samsung Galaxy S8 first-hand. However, what we want to do today is look back. In June 2010, a saga of telephones began, the Galaxy S. That first device pointed ways, but it had not yet become the monster that will undoubtedly be the Galaxy S8.
The evolution has been unstoppable, year after year, but everything has a beginning. Only 7 years ago, and it seems like a real eternity, especially when we compare the huge changes in hardware and software that the Samsung phone has experienced.
Size
The Samsung Galaxy S was born as the phone that was going to challenge the iPhone 4. Launched almost at the same time, the also known as Samsung i9000 offered a 4-inch screen with 480 x 800 pixels of resolution. Its super AMOLED panel still did not come close to HD, and it carried Corning Gorilla Glass protection, the first generation. It was 9.9mm thick and weighed 119 grams.
Seven years later, here we are, waiting for a Samsung Galaxy S8 that aims to arrive in two models, 5.8 and 6.2 inches, with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels, Quad HD. The screen ratio has gone from 58% to 85%, which affects that the size of the phone has not changed so much. The Galaxy S8 is in fact thinner (7.7mm thick) and is only 20mm taller than the Galaxy S.
The Galaxy S, with its 512 MB of RAM.
Power
In 2010, the Galaxy S was proud to be equipped with a 1GHz single core Hummingbird chip. The RAM was 512 MB and it ran on Android 2.1. Storage ranged from 8 to 16 GB, and was expandable via microSD card.
Comparing with what is expected of the Samsung Galaxy S8, we are frozen: a Snapdragon 835 chip with eight cores at a maximum speed of 2.45 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and a storage that ranges between 64 and 128 GB.
Camera
When the Galaxy S went on sale, the camera was still a minor accessory for mobile phones. Compact cameras were booming, and no one thought that smartphones would eat away at them. However, they have, and a lot. In 2010, the Galaxy S had a unique rear 5 - megapixel camera. No flash, of course. Of course, it recorded video at 720 pixels.
In 2017, things have changed a lot: mobile cameras are a real threat to personal cameras, and even some semi-professional cameras. Samsung set the bar very high with the Galaxy S7, but intends to raise it again with the Galaxy S8. A 12-megapixel rear camera with f / 1.7 aperture, auto HDR and 4K video is expected. In front, an 8 megapixel camera also with aperture f / 1.7 and auto HDR. It is not a change, nor a leap, it is a true transformation.
Then and now: a look at the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Autonomy and connectivity
The Galaxy S carried a 1,500 mAh battery, and offered autonomy of up to 13 hours, which by then was seen as something very small. It should be borne in mind that non-smartphone phones could be switched on for several days without problem. In terms of connections, the Galaxy S had Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and FM radio. What else for?
In 2017, when a battery exceeds the autonomy day, we jump for joy. The battery in the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to double the capacity of the Galaxy S, with 3,000 milliamps. Its autonomy, however, will be difficult to double that of the Galaxy S, although we will check it when we have it at hand.
Finally, sensors and connections have become highly valued by the public. We are talking about the fingerprint reader, the iris scanner, the accelerometer, proximity sensor and heart rate. We love those things.
Returning the visa to the front
A whole world has passed since the Galaxy S appeared in our lives. Now, it seems that we will experience a new twist with the departure of the Samsung Galaxy S8. We will only have to wait a few days to see it up close. We promise to take a family photo when that happens, next to the Galaxy S.
