LG could be working on its own foldable phone in true Samsung Galaxy Fold style. This is revealed by a couple of patent applications published this month, which show what type of design the manufacturer would be looking for for its new model. One of these two patents reveals a phone that is not folded once, but twice. When the device is folded, a space is created that can accommodate an accompanying stylus.
LG's second patent application published last week by the World Intellectual Property Organization shows another version of the folding smartphone. When the headset is opened, a larger screen is exposed, twice the size of a normal smartphone. And there's another screen that folds out to form an even wider one. This additional screen is half the size of the internal screen. The side bezels are thin, and there is a small visible border between the inner screen and the additional screen, which also functions as an outer cover screen. This would allow the user to have a full size panel on the outside of the device.
On the other hand, the patent shows that the phone would have a double camera on the back. It is also expected that both the front sensor and the fingerprint reader are below the screen. A 3.5mm headphone jack and charging port are also missing, meaning the phone would only charge wirelessly. And, when will the launch of this device? Although LG would have already registered several names related to a folding phone: LG Bendi, Foldi, Foldi, Folds and Duplex, it does not seem that we will see anything official until next year at the earliest.
In any case, on September 6, the South Korean manufacturer is expected to unveil a new dual-screen terminal. Unlike a folding phone, we could add or remove an additional second screen whenever we wanted. Although its name is unknown for now, everything indicates that we would be facing the LG V60 ThinQ, successor to the LG V50 ThinQ.
