- Price: $ 370
The Chinese company Lenovo has taken advantage of the CES 2015 that is taking place these days in Las Vegas (United States) to announce the details of its new Lenovo P90. The Lenovo P90 is an upper-middle- range smartphone that comes with a 5.5-inch screen and a starting price that could be around $ 370 (the final price for the European market is unknown). And while the details regarding the availability of this terminal are clarified, let's learn more about its characteristics in the following analysis of the Lenovo P90.
Display and layout
The screen with which the Lenovo P90 is presented is of the IPS LCD type, and has a size established at 5.5 inches (that is, a size that could practically be included within the category of phablets , since it is halfway between a mobile and a tablet). This screen reaches a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a pixel density in screen 401 ppi. In short, we are facing a screen with standard features for what we might expect from a mid-range smartphone of this year 2015.
The Lenovo P90 incorporates a rectangular design with plastic finishes. On the front of the mobile we can find a speaker, the Lenovo logo, the front camera and, below the screen, the three touch buttons of the Android operating system ( Menu , Home and Back ). These three touch buttons are permanently embedded under the front panel, allowing you to take full advantage of the screen size of this smartphone.
If we turn the terminal around, on the back we will find a plastic housing in which the main camera appears accompanied by its LED Flash, the Lenovo logo and, curiously, also the Intel logo (the manufacturer of the processor that incorporates this mobile), all accompanied by another speaker located in the lower part of the housing. To find the physical buttons of this terminal we have to refer to the left side, where are the volume buttons and the screen lock button.
Measures the Lenovo P90 are set to the 150 x 77.4 x 8.5 mm, and weight of the terminal -battery includes- reaches 156 grams. In addition, Lenovo will make available to users three housing colors on this mobile: white, black and red. These colors only affect the back cover, since in all versions the front of the Lenovo P90 remains black.
Camera and multimedia
The Lenovo P90 incorporates a main camera of 13 megapixels, moreover, is accompanied by an LED flash to improve the illumination of pictures and videos taken in adverse lighting conditions. This camera is complemented by additional important options such as autofocus or optical image stabilization. In the absence of seeing the camera in action, at first glance the Lenovo P90 appears to incorporate a sensor capable of offering photographs with a predictably acceptable image quality.
The secondary camera of the Lenovo P90 is located on the front of the terminal, and built - in sensor in it is five megapixels.
The Lenovo P90 also incorporates a native multimedia player and, although at the moment we do not know the exact formats with which it is compatible, we can be sure that it is capable of playing the most popular video and audio extensions on the network (MP3, MP4, 3GP, etc.).
Power and memory
The processor that brings the performance of the Lenovo P90 to life is a quad-core Intel Atom (model Z3560) with 64-bit technology that operates at a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. The RAM memory capacity is 2 GigaBytes, and the graphics processor model is yet to be determined.
The internal storage space of the Lenovo P90 is 32 GigaBytes, although due to the files installed as standard this space is reduced to 28 GigaBytes, which are those that are available to the user once the mobile is turned on for the first time. And by the way, the Lenovo P90 does not incorporate a slot for external microSD memory cards.
Operating system and applications
The operating system that we are factory installed in the Lenovo P90 is Android in its version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. We are not talking about the most recent version of this operating system and, in fact, we do not quite understand why Lenovo has not dared to incorporate the Android 5.0 Lollipop version in this terminal. We will have to wait a few months to find out if, at least, the Lenovo P90 updates to this version throughout the year.
The applications installed as standard in the Lenovo P90 correspond both to applications introduced by Lenovo (Telephone, Contacts, Messages, Camera, etc.) and to applications of the American company Google. Among this second group of applications we can find Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Plus, Google Play Music or Google Drive. And, of course, this list of applications can be expanded through any of the thousands of apps that can be downloaded for free from theGoogle Play Store.
Connectivity and autonomy
As expected otherwise, the Lenovo P90 supports connectivity 4G LTE of Internet ultrarapid (Cat 4). This means that this terminal is capable of reaching a download speed through the data rate of up to 150 Mbps, as long as the coverage allows it. In any case, the Lenovo P90 is also compatible with 3G and WiFi, so that there is no limitation regarding the options that the user has to surf the Internet from this smartphone.
Among the wireless connectivity of this mobile we also find Bluetooth (to transfer files wirelessly and to connect devices in the same way) and GPS connectivity (with A-GPS technology, to follow navigation routes through a map). Physical connectivities, as is usual being, are formed by a minijack output of 3.5 millimeters a microUSB 2.0 port, and a Micro-SIM slot.
The Lenovo P90 incorporates a 4,000 mAh battery, which means that we are talking about a significantly higher capacity than the batteries that we can find in any other competing smartphone. Lenovo has not provided information regarding the autonomy of this terminal, but we can be sure that this battery capacity guarantees more than one day of use - even taking into account the dimensions and resolution of the Lenovo P90 screen -.
Price and availability
The Lenovo P90 will be available in the coming weeks for a starting price of $ 370. We must bear in mind that we are facing a smartphone whose availability has not yet been confirmed for stores in Europe, so we will have to wait some time until we know the details regarding the price and the launch date of this mobile in European territory.
