Just a couple of months ago we referred to the causal relationship that could be established between the pressing economic crisis in which the Spanish population is submerged and the behavior of mobile phone customers. Then, and based on data from the Telecommunications Market Commission ”” CMT ””, it was deduced that the pockets of Spanish users had been an important incentive to trigger portability in search of more interesting rates and adjusted to the habits of the clients.
Today, we use the economic crisis as a possible argument to explain the results of an analysis developed by the CMT again in relation to the behavior manifested during last February, the mobile operators. The figures are, of course, most eloquent: compared to the first month of 2012, 133,500 were the lines that as a whole lost the service providers, with the big three "" Movistar, Vodafone and Orange "" being the most affected in the bleeding from customers.
In total, the second month of the year closed with a population of 56,224,683 mobile lines in our country, the Cuale s 32,619,098 are postpaid "" the contract "and" 20214742 correspond to prepayments "" lines card ””. The remaining 3,390,843 accounts are identified with the number of datacards in the active Spanish market. In total, and establishing a comparative criterion with the same period last year, the increase in lines has been 2.6 percent.
As we have said, the three main operators in the country suffered especially the loss situation between the months of January and February. Movistar is the main affected. In total, the Spanish operator lost 209,560 lines, followed by Vodafone, which was 61,200 less closing lines of the second month of the year. The orange operator, Orange, is not saved from the stake, although its decline was more discreet, with a loss of 32,080 lines in February.
In this sense, the virtual mobile operators seem to have been the great beneficiaries of this period "" together with Yoigo, who years ago was embedded within the MVNOs "". Together, these small companies had 126,740 new mobile lines, with 42,600 registered by Yoigo between January and February of this year.
After the latest movements that the CMT has put under the microscope last February, the distribution of the cake among the different competitors that populate the telephony market in Spain presents sensitive news. Movistar continues to lead in share, representing a parcel below 40 percent. Vodafone and Orange, with 28.21 percent and 20.06 percent, respectively, share almost half of the banquet. Finally, the OMVs continue to tingle little by little and alreadythey represent 6.78 percent of the telephony horizon in Spain. Finally, Yoigo takes 5.34 percent of the sector's share.
