A few minutes ago, Huawei presented its new Huawei P30s and we have already seen the main differences between the P30 Pro and the P20 Pro of the last generation. Now it's the turn of the base model, the Huawei P30. Among the main novelties we find a better screen and a series of cameras more similar to those of the Huawei P20 Pro than to those of the P30 Pro. Will they be enough to conquer the high-end of 2019? We see it below.
Photographic section now yes, at the height of the high-end of 2019
If there is something that has been blamed on the Huawei P20, it is the difference in photographic quality compared to the P20 Pro by not having the same sensors. The Huawei P30 has come to solve this with the integration of three cameras very similar to those of the Huawei P20 Pro.
In summary, we find three RGB sensors with ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses of 40, 16 and 8 megapixels and focal aperture f / 1.8, f / 2.2 and f / 2.4. The latter is responsible for taking the photographs with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid and 30x digital zoom. In addition, the main sensor includes what Huawei calls Super Sensing, a technology capable of collecting up to 40% more light to illuminate the darkest areas through Huawei AIS.
If we refer to the Huawei P20, the terminal starts from a totally different concept of photography by having two RGB sensors and 20 megapixel monochrome sensors, both with a focal aperture f / 1.6 and f / 1.8. Compared to the 2019 model, we gain wide angle and obtain better overall quality in photos at night and in portrait mode thanks to the improvement of Artificial Intelligence. The downside is that we will no longer be able to capture black and white photos with the quality of the Huawei P20's monochrome sensor.
Regarding the front cameras, here the changes are rather insignificant. In both devices we find the same camera as in the Pro model; specifically 32 megapixels and f / 2.0 focal aperture in the P30 and 24 megapixels and f / 2.0 aperture in the P20. Huawei has ensured that selfies and photos with bokeh effect have been improved, so a better overall quality is expected in the latest batch model.
Updated hardware and expandability via memory cards
As with the Huawei P30 Pro, the Huawei P30 has introduced the new latest generation processor from the Chinese brand. An eight-core processor called Kirin 980 along with 6 GB of RAM and a single 128 GB version expandable via NM + Card.
As for the Huawei P20, the terminal integrates a Kirin 970 octacore processor, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of non-expandable storage through cards of any kind. Theoretical performance differences promise up to 75% more speed versus the previous generation and 40% more energy efficiency. Also the GPU has been renewed (Mali G76 vs Mali G72MP12), with the respective differences in graphics performance.
The screen improves in quality and increases in size
Huawei has finally decided to implement a panel with AMOLED technology in its base model Huawei P. Unlike the Huawei P20, the P30 has a 6.1-inch OLED screen and Full HD + resolution.
As for the characteristics of the P20 screen, the terminal integrates a panel with 5.8-inch IPS LCD technology and the same resolution as the previous one. In addition to the respective improvement in color reproduction, improvements related to brightness and viewing angles are expected.
The fingerprint sensor is now under the screen
Along with the screen, Huawei has chosen to implement the optical fingerprint sensor on the Huawei P30 panel itself, as with its older brother, the P30 Pro.

The company has ensured that the recognition technology has been improved with respect to the sensor of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. We will have to wait for the first tests in hand to see if this is finally the case, although everything indicates that the Huawei P20 will surpass the P30 sensor.
Improved battery and splash protection
The last aspect to note is battery improvement and protection. Although we find the same fast charging technology as in the 22.5 W Huawei P20, the battery grows compared to the 2018 generation. Specifically, up to 3,650 mAh compared to 3,400 mAh of the previous generation.
Finally, Huawei has integrated an IP53 type protection capable of resisting dust and splashes. It is not the panacea currently, but at least we can be calm if our terminal gets wet.
