After many weeks of leaks and rumors, today it has come true. Apple has presented us only a few hours ago the new iPhone X. A completely new iPhone that breaks with the design that we knew until now, and that it does retain its presentation companions: the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone X (read iPhone Ten) sports an all-screen front and a glass design. It also replaces the fingerprint reader with the new Face ID system and includes a very special new front camera. Everything is new in this terminal, so we wanted to go over with you the 5 most important features of the iPhone X.

An iPhone that is all screen
The star feature of the new iPhone X is undoubtedly its screen. Apple has given in to market demands and created an iPhone without frames. A really nice design in which the entire front is a screen.
Apple used an OLED panel of 5.8 inches with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. The new Super Retina HD display, as Apple has called it, offers a contrast of 1,000,000: 1, a brightness of 625 cd / m2 and compatibility with a wide color gamut.
But not only that, the iPhone X screen also has True Tone technology. This technology uses an advanced six-channel ambient light sensor to adjust the screen's white balance to match the color temperature of the surrounding light. This achieves more natural images and reduces eyestrain.
And to top it off, the iPhone X screen supports high dynamic range (HDR) images. Specifically, it supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Now we can watch Netflix with the highest possible quality, as well as the new HDR titles that will arrive on iTunes along with the Apple TV 4K.
Design that mixes steel and glass
Although the final design of the iPhone X is very different from the iPhone 8, they do share some characteristics. The front and the back are made of glass. Apple has used what, according to them, is the strongest glass used in a smartphone. To guarantee this resistance, it has been finished off with a 50% deeper reinforcement layer.
On the other hand, a seven-layer coloring process allows fine-tuning of hue and opacity, and a reflective optical layer accentuates colors. In addition, the terminal has been given an oleophobic finish to try to avoid stains and fingerprints.
The two layers of glass are joined by a stainless steel edge. It is actually a special alloy developed by Apple, which offers strength without losing elegance. Despite this, the resistance to water and dust with IP67 certification has been maintained.
The removal of the home button from the front has forced Apple to find a replacement for it through software. Finally these actions are carried out through gestures. For example, to go to the home screen we will only have to slide your finger from bottom to top. Or to open multitasking we will have to slide up and hold our finger.
New functionalities have also been given to the side button, with which we can call Siri or launch Apple Pay.
Face ID facial recognition
The removal of the home button has resulted in the removal of the fingerprint reader as collateral damage. Apple has preferred to replace it with another system instead of relocating it. The chosen system has been facial recognition, which he has called Face ID.
Thus, Face ID has become the new way to unlock the iPhone X, identify ourselves and pay with Apple Pay. As it does? Apple has invented a system that it has called TrueDepth. This groups several technologies to get recognized instantly. Specifically includes:
- Point projector, which projects more than 30,000 points on our face to create the facial map.
- Infrared camera, which analyzes the dot pattern, captures the image and sends the data to the Secure Enclave of the A11 Bionic chip to confirm that they match.
- IR illuminator, an invisible infrared light allows you to identify your face even in the dark.
All this technology achieves is that the iPhone X is only unlocked when we look at it. The idea is to prevent someone from using a photo or a mask to impersonate us. Our face map is encrypted and protected by the Secure Enclave. And authentication is done instantly from the device, not in the cloud.
Additionally, the A11 Bionic chip uses machine learning to recognize our appearance changes. Thus, we can wear glasses, accessories, grow a beard or longer hair, but the iPhone X will continue to recognize us.
But this impressive forward system could not be left alone in authentication. Apple wanted to take advantage of it to get a front camera capable of taking selfies with Portrait mode. And even with the new Portrait Lighting mode.
And we can also use the TrueDepth camera to create the new Animoji. These are 3D and animated emojis that speak with our voice and imitate the gestures of our face. To do this, the TrueDepth camera captures more than 50 muscle movements and passes them to one of the 12 Animoji included in the system.
Dual camera on the rear
The iPhone X has a dual camera on the back. On the one hand, it includes a six-element lens with aperture of f / 1.8, double optical image stabilization and a larger and faster 12-megapixel sensor.
On the other hand, it includes a second camera with telephoto lens and f / 2.4 aperture. This camera, thanks to a novel seven-magnet solution, also includes a second optical image stabilization system. If we put the two cameras together we get a very powerful optical zoom and the well-known Portrait mode. Of course we will also have the new Portrait Lighting feature available.
As for video, the iPhone X includes an Apple-designed video encoder that processes images in real time to achieve high quality. To this we must add the HEVC compression, with which the videos occupy half the space.
Thus, the iPhone X is capable of recording video in 4K resolution at 60 fps. In addition, it is also capable of recording 1080p videos up to 240 fps. We'll even have advanced video stabilization, thanks to the larger sensor and a more powerful ISP. And with optical image stabilization, videos in low light will become sharper.
More power and wireless charging
Inside the iPhone X keeps the same processor as the new iPhone 8. The new A11 Bionic chip has four efficiency cores, which are up to 70% faster than the A10 Fusion chip, and two performance cores, which are up to 25% faster.
This increase in power, together with a new three-core GPU developed by Apple, makes the iPhone X able to work with augmented reality without problems.
On the other hand, the iPhone X also includes the expected wireless charging system. Although it works with any Qi wireless charger, Apple will launch the AirPower charging base next year. With it we can simultaneously charge the iPhone, the Apple Watch and the AirPods.
Finally, like its presentation companions, the iPhone X will hit the market with iOS 11. The new version of Apple's mobile operating system will include some very interesting news. We will have, for example, a new Control Center, much more intuitive. Siri will expand its capabilities and we will also have improvements in iMessage, among which are the Animoji of the iPhone X. The camera application will be improved and finally all the virtual reality options will be included. In short, a necessary redesign to accompany the new iPhone X.
In short, a groundbreaking iPhone that comes to delight all those who expected a revolution. An iPhone loaded with technology that, as you can imagine, will not be exactly cheap. The iPhone X will be available for pre-order starting on October 27 and will go on sale on November 3. Its price will start from 1,160 euros.
