Alcatel returns to the mobile market strongly. The company presented its terminals for 2016 at the last Mobile World Congress. And it not only wants to compete in the low and medium ranges, it also has a terminal prepared to give a lot of war in the high range. The Alcatel Idol 4S is a terminal made with the best materials and that offers a 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD resolution. We are going to review 5 keys of the new Alcatel Idol 4S that could lead it to compete with the heavyweights of the high-end Android range.
Premium design
If the Alcatel Idol 4S wanted to make a place among the largest, it had to offer a design to match. The historic company, now in the hands of the Chinese company TCL, has manufactured its new flagship using metal and glass. The Alcatel Idol 4S combines metal sides with the use of glass on the back. The new Alcatel terminal also offers one of the thinnest bodies in the terminal market with a 5.5-inch screen, just 7 millimeters thick.
Something curious about the design of the Alcatel Idol 4S is that all models will have their back in black. Color options are limited to metal side frames. It will be available in four colors: pink, gray, silver and gold.
Quad HD display and Hi-Fi sound
Alcatel has done a great job in the multimedia section of its new flagship. The Alcatel Idol 4S incorporates a 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, the same value offered by the best smartphones on the market.
But to further enhance the multimedia section of the terminal, the company has wanted to provide the Alcatel Idol 4S with a quality sound system. The new Alcatel terminal includes two stereo speakers that offer a power of 3.6 watts and that have been developed with Waves technology. In addition, it offers Hi-Fi quality sound in your headphones. A real delight for music lovers.
16 megapixel camera
The Alcatel Idol 4S offers a good set of cameras. The rear camera incorporates a sensor of 16 megapixels and an LED flash dual tone that improves night photographs. The new Alcatel terminal incorporates the Instant Shot function and also offers the possibility of taking 360-degree photos. As for video, the rear camera records video with Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
The photographic set is completed by an 8 megapixel front camera with flash and capable of recording video with Full HD resolution.
Good processor and memory
The processor chosen by Alcatel for Alcatel Idol 4S is a Snapdragon 652 from Qualcomm. It is an eight-core processor, clocked at 1.8 GHz in four of these cores and 1.4 GHz in the remaining four. Although the logical thing would have been to incorporate the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 820, this model offers good performance and allows the cost of the terminal to be somewhat lower than the competition.
This chip is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM, enough to run any Android game or application without problems. The internal storage is also in line with the rest of high-end smartphones. The Alcatel Idol 4S offers 32 GB of storage, expandable via MicroSD card up to 512 GB.
Boom Key button and virtual reality glasses
In a market as competitive as the mobile market, companies are looking for something that differentiates them from others. But ask LG and its new LG G5. Alcatel wanted to give the terminal's power button a life of its own, adding a series of extra functions. They have called it Boom Key and it is one of the great novelties of the new flagship of the company. For example, one of the functions of the new Boom Key button will be, with the screen off, to launch a burst of photos quickly. If we are recording a video, the Boom Key button will allow us to share the video live through YouTube. These are just two examples of what can be done with the new button. We will have to wait for the in-depth analysis of the terminal to discover its full potential.
Finally, Alcatel has decided to give a very special gift to the buyers of the Alcatel Idol 4S. And it is that the terminal box can become at any time virtual reality glasses. The new Alcatel Idol 4S will go on sale in April at a price of 500 euros.
