Android 7.0 Nougat is getting closer and closer to officially reaching the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Developers and testers are already working with the beta version of Google's new operating system and also with Samsung's new TouchWiz customization layer. The arrival of Android 7.0 will be the biggest update that the current flagship of the Korean company has received and, in addition, it will show us the interface that the next generation of Samsung terminals will use. As we mentioned, we are facing a beta version, so some functions could change, but we will review10 new features that could come to the Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 7.0 Nougat.
Completely new design
The update to Android 7.0 Nougat will bring a complete design change to the interface of the Samsung Galaxy S7. The blue and green colors have been changed in favor of a bright white with subtle light color accents. The standard application icons have also been modified to make them more rounded and a shortcut to related options has been included at the end of each configuration menu.
New quick access menu
The new version of Android has made a change in the notification center, a change that, logically, we will see reflected in all the terminals that are updated. Samsung has added to this change the possibility of configuring the shortcut menu to different functions, such as WiFi or Bluetooth. Now we can reorganize our taste the grid with these options, as well as change the layout of the same (3 × 3, 4 × 3 or 5 x 3). A change has also been seen in the Quick Connect application, which allows you to manage devices paired with the phone. Now we can quickly choose where to play the audio and disconnect devices easily.
Send applications to "sleep"
With the new update we can send some applications "to sleep" manually, thus ensuring that they do not bother us or save battery. To do this we will simply have to hold down the application and choose the corresponding option in the context menu. The application will not consume battery in the background, but it will not receive notifications until we open it again.
New multi-window system
Android 7.0 Nougat will finally provide users with the ability to work with multi-windows, one of the most anticipated features of the new version of Google's system. However, Samsung has already implemented this system in its devices a long time ago, so now it has had to adapt it to couple it to the one that will incorporate the new version of Android by default. In the beta it has been possible to see a multi-window system that is a hybrid between Samsung and Android.
Through the recent applications button, you can control the division of the screen between applications, as in any phone that includes Android 7.0, but in the Samsung terminal you can also easily close applications or change their position. It will also be possible to drag a compatible application to the middle of the screen or swipe in from the upper left corner when the application is in full screen.
Scaling has also been improved in applications that are running in multi-window, allowing applications to be reorganized in windows with any aspect ratio.
Blue light filter
A new option will allow us to activate the "Blue Light" filter to reduce visual fatigue. In addition, we can manually control the intensity of the screen and even configure a schedule so that this function is activated automatically.
Performance mode
In practically all terminals we can find some special way of saving energy. Samsung has gone a bit further and has included a new "Performance Mode" in the update to Android 7.0. This new mode offers four settings that allow us to adapt the power and screen of the terminal for a specific use. In the “Normal” and “Game mode” settings, the Samsung Galaxy S7 will work with a Full HD screen resolution; while in the "Entertainment" and "High Performance" modes, the terminal will use the maximum resolution of the screen, 1440p, and will also set the brightness to maximum.
Device maintenance
Settings Battery and Storage have introduced a new menu called "Device Maintenance" (Maintenance of the device), which also covers "Performance Modes", information on the RAM and security settings. In the beta of the Samsung Galaxy S7, it has been detected with the Samsung “Clean Master” application that has been integrated into this section, thus allowing the device to be analyzed to find possible performance problems.
Screen "Always on display" more functional
One of the great novelties that the Samsung Galaxy S7 incorporated was the screen "Always on display", or screen always on. Although it is a useful option to see the time and some minimal notifications, you can get much more out of it, and it seems that Samsung will do it with the new operating system. You will now be able to display notifications from all apps, as well as the date, time, battery level, and calendar appointments, depending on how it was set up. The addition of third-party applications will give this functionality of the Samsung Galaxy S7 a new life.
Screen resolution selection
Android 7.0 Nougat will allow you to more precisely control the scale of the user interface. We will have three levels of screen zoom available: small, medium and large. In addition, we can directly control the resolution of the phone screen, being able to go to Full HD resolution or even HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels if we want to save more battery. The screen will be configured by default in Full HD resolution, so to take full advantage of the Super AMOLED Quad HD panel of the Samsung Galaxy S7 we will have to change it manually.
Rounded icons
With the update of the Samsung Galaxy S7 to Android 7.0 Nougat, the icons with "square circles" , which in English are known as "squircles", return . The icons will now have a rounded rectangular border to give uniformity to the device interface. The problem is that some applications will introduce their own icon inside this white rectangle, something that is not too aesthetic. However, as the company is aware that this design may not be liked by all users, it has enabled the possibility to disable it in the display settings menu.
And here are 10 of the most significant changes that we will see in our Samsung Galaxy S7 when we update to Android 7.0 Nougat. We hope the final version doesn't take too long, as the new features look great.
